I think they failed to fully discharge the drive before freezing it. Result? frozen mutated electricity electrons. When the leftover electrons were frozen, they mutated into evil electrons. When the drive was thawed out and normal electrons were introduced to the drive, the evil electrons rebelled and attacked the normal electrons. This major battle resulted in major damage to the components in the drive, (Picture a bombed out city in a war.) There you have it! That is the real reason the drive "Didn't Work.

Funny article title here. Common sense would dictate that any electronics and ice don't mix well...
Anyway, this was a silly test. Failure occurred most probably due to water and vibration damage... Not temperature. Using a chainsaw, into a solid material like ice, transmitted all the vibrations to the vibration sensitive HDD, thus killed it. Then ripping the so-called hermetic plastic bag didn't help either. Regardless, this test was flawed from the start. And means nothing.

Yeah. They should have tried a glacier, and only checked the drive when it melted.
...Oh, that's right. We humans have a very poor track record as far as keeping our minds on things. That's why the skating rink and the chain saw. It does make one wonder what's next; perhaps an elephant balancing on a disc drive?
