I recently downloaded 2 programmes one was Avast and the other was Advanced Systems Care, one of these has thrown my PC into disarray, I keep getting a window saying that may I be a victim of software counterfeiting, saying this copy of Windows did not pass genuine windows validation, and I cannot use some items like System Restore etc. The Windows XP is a genuine programme as I have validated it on many occasions. Can anyone help me rectify the matter. I have tried running various anti virus programmes but ity still appears on my desktop
Many thanks

Avast! is used by many people on these forums, but Advanced SystemCare is made by IObit which is based in China. That by its self makes it questionable so I would recommend removing it, and you can see if that helps.
You can replace it with various free alternatives such as CCleaner, Easy Cleaner, etc.

Hi dynofon and welcome to the PCWorld Communities. :D
For clarification, in the future, please be clearer when creating Discussions. The title of your Discussion really has nothing to do with the issue at hand. The real issue here is that your Windows system has been compromised. The title of the Discussion gives a false sense of what the actual concern is and may not been reviewed by many of the regular members within this Community.
In addition to what Numbers6 has suggested, which is exactly what you should do, I would advise you to remove this application in Safe Mode...if it is accessible. If you are not sure how to access Safe Mode, follow the steps laid out within this {document:id=1093}. Also, I would advise you to get an application called SuperAntiSpyware, which is available here. Do not try to install this application until you have successfully removed Advanced Systems Care.
Once this application is removed and you have run both Avast and SuperAntiSpyware in Safe Mode, restart your computer as normal and see if you have the same issue. If you do not resolve the issue with the steps suggested, please respond back so we can continue to assist you.
