There is not enough emphasis on building links. If you want a high Google ranking on a keyword that is even somewhat competitive, you will need to build inbound links to your site. These "tips" won't get you very far if you don't build inbound links.

@Jon- I did touch on this a bit in tip #5, but you're right in that inbound links are a very important aspect of SEO that could've easily taken up an entire article of discussion. I did make an intentional decision to position this article around balancing several techniques rather than claiming any one "golden ticket" to SEO. Yes, creating a robust network of inbound links will improve your ranking- and while there are ways to aid in expanding such a network, delivering good content should really be the goal. If you follow a few guidelines and set up your site correctly the rest should follow.

Also, not to say that this was implied by Jon's comment, but I'd strongly discourage the use of "black hat" SEO, a la bombing other sites with your URL to increase the number of said inbound links.

Hey Mike. I know this more than a year and a half late, but I still have a few comments about your article.

Creating unique titles for each page is very simple in WordPress. Of course, this is 1.75 years after your article and I don't know how different WP was back then. I suggest making your WP titles like this:
<title><?php wp_title('|', true, 'right'); ?></title>

It will make your title look like this "Blog SEO: 5 Tips | PCWorld Forums" but you can modify it to your liking. From my understand, it's best for search engines if you specify the specific page you're viewing first and then the website after. "PCWorld Forums | Replying to Blog SEO: 5 Tips" isn't recommended.

I was curious for your take on the "abstract" and "revisit-after" meta tags. The "abstract" meta tag is supposed to be a 1-line summary of the page, but does it really get used anymore? I'm sure not by Google, but what about Bing?

Your link to Google's submission page has a typo. The protocol is incomplete. Although it dominates over Bing and Yahoo, I think a new website should submit to those too.

I completely agree with your first line of section five. Good content is definitely the most important thing. After you've got a good flow of new content, you should try interacting with your current readers too. You want them to come back regularly instead of having 85% of the traffic from new visitors. Communityspark has some awesome articles about building a community and interacting with your readership.

Yes quality is more important then quantity. I always use unique contents and only manual link building process to get top ranking for my site. I do agree with you.
