im confused at what you are trying to say
almost any browser based security scan is gonna need internet explorer because of the activeX plugin needed

firefox does not use activeX plugins

Hi Whisky. I have moved this Discussion from the Windows Community into the Privacy & Security Community. Additionally, please provide more information in the Title of your Discussions. One word titles do not provide enough information and can lead to misinformation.

I am with Crazy. I am not quite sure what you mean by your post. Can you please clarify?

Hey Whiskey, If you doing a scan from Micro$oft's site, you need to be using Internet Explorer as Micro$oft does not support other browsers for obvious reasons. This goes for MS updates as well. coastie

Hi Coastie. Look at the quoted statement from whisky. It appears the odd situation is that he or she is already using Internet Explorer and then it reverts to Firefox. I could be mistaken as to exactly what he or she means (same as Crazy) and that is why I mentioned to clarify.

Hi,this is whisky, this is how am into m/s security center.

(1) I open I.E. ,go to start,control panel,go to security center,then i i am at resources,click on 3rd item [down@security-related] issues.

Then this is when i get screen that says microsoft security online and phone support .

then on same line it says microsoft secuity-mozilla firefox, and it goes from I.E. to this firefox page without me having to do anything

it is as if someone is redirecting this page change and i having no control to stop it,thank's,hope this explains this better.

Then when i go to the 3rd item it should let me do security scan in I.E. in live one,but when i click on scan that MS has for their

customer support thats when it is telling me that it does not support firefox which to me is really stupid because i was not in firefox

to start with, there is possibility there is a real simple answer, but i do not hve the foggiest idea what it is.

Hey Whiskey, It sounds like you are being redirected by Fire Fox, but I have never heard of that happening. maybe if you make sure FF has been disabled completely, it might work. coastie

Whiskey:

If nothing else, you could always try downloading the "IE Tab" plugin for Firefox. This will let you use Firefox in place of Internet Explorer with certain pages that require ActiveX. Then, when you're done, you can switch back to Firefox mode for regular browsing. From what you described in your problem, you have Firefox set as your default browser, and, if that's the case when you're doing your scan, I'd switch it over to IE, or do the above.

Keep us updated.

Hey whisky !!

As HeroofAvalon has mentioned , you have your Default Browser set to Firefox

instead of Internet Explorer. This is why when , the page demands the Default Browser

you are re-directed to Firefox . Change your Default Browser to Internet Explorer.

If you are in XP and Vista :

http://answers.vt.edu/kb/entry/2044/ .

Follow the instructions on this page to re-establish your default programs.
