Is there some way of restoring the bios in my C to default value? My PC is a Dell 4550 Dimensions Desktop and I was playing around bios trying to get a new hard drive I installed to be recognized by my system. Unfortunately for me I got into the IRQ values and leaned on the wrong key and changed the values. I can't remember where they were originaly. If any of you real techs out there cn help I'd like to hear from you.

Hi Jimmy, Open your computer and look on the Motherboard for what looks like a big watch battery. This is a CMOS battery. make sue all th power is unplugged from the computer and then remove the battery. Wait a couple of minutes and then replace the battery. Plug the power back in and restart your computer. You will probably seee some strange messages about the CMOS and the time, but it is nothing to worry about, just continue withthe boot. The clock will reset itself at some point if you don'y beforehand. coastie65

Hi coastie, thanks for you savvy reply. now that I'e got the BIOS restored My PC starts to boot then turns off. It still isnt recognizing the hard drives. I put the old one and hooked up a new one. Any way after trying to reboot several times in a row I now get messages saying that after so many failed attempts I should contact Dell tech support. I don't want to do this because the pc is out of warranty and I don't want to spend money on it anymore.

Hi Jimmy, If you can get into bios, check and see if you Hdd ( C: ) in enabled. I am assuming the OS is on C which is generally the primary drive. If you are using two Hdd, then you have to make sure the jumpers are set correctly. coastie

Jimmy: Within most all BIOS screens should be a selection of setting all BIOS to default. Usually on the same screen with the exit and save option.
