I recently purchased a Canon Rebel XT and went snap happy and of course, wanted to see immediate results on my computer. But because my laptop is several years old (Dell Inspiron 700m), I had to get a media card reader since it does not come with a built-in compact flash reader- it only reads SD cards. I purchased a plug & play Vakoss card reader at Frys and upon putting the CF card (a SanDisk Ultra II, formatted prior to use) into its slot, nothing was prompted on the screen. I thought maybe the reader was busted, so I inserted my Transcend SD card into its slot and the screen prompted whether not to open files or not.
So I guess the real question(s) are a) do I have to purchase an adapter for my laptop or b) is the card reader busted? I've already formatted my CF card several times and have a back-up Transcend CF card as well that does not read on the reader. I'm assuming it's the former. Are CF cards not USB-enabled? And if I will need to get an adapter, suggestions would be great :) Thanks in advance!
