Hi-

I am looking for recommendations for low end laptop for kid - for internet, word processing and watching movies only. preferably as lite weight as possible.

Anybody know minimum requirements for such a system? Would a net-book/mini laptop/notebook work?

Thanks!

Joel

I don't have a particualar model or manufacturer in mind but my thoughts are that when you say "low end" is it for budget reasons or do you feel low end fits the need?

Personally I would look for a laptop that doesn't have unnecassary bells and whistles but put its money in a decent CPU and has nothing less than 1gb of memory. Even for younger folk a slow pc could frustrate and possibly rob learning time and enjoyment.

At least a 2ghz Athon X2 cpu or intel equivelant. Intagrated graphics, even closer to low end should be fine for movies. If any gaming is in the future than that is a completely different budget.

Its easy for someone else to spend your money but sometimes going to cheap ends up being a diappointment.

I would stick to a popular brand. My wife has an Acer and when it dies we wont be getting another Acer.

I have an HP, never booted fast but performs well. Don't recall all the specs. If you want that info I'll reply again when home.

Hope this helps.
