Microsoft update for MSXML core services (KB954430) still appears as "Update ready to install" after I have tried to update it several times. How do I get rid of it so I don't have to ignore it each time I shut down?

Hi murrayallen. Go to your list of programs under "Set Program Access and Defaults", go to "Change or Remove Programs", make sure "Show Updates" at the top of the box is ticked, and scroll down until you see the Microsoft update list (probably near the bottom). If the problem update is there, uninstall it, and update again from your web browser.

I had a similar problem once, and this fixed it right up. Let me know how it goes.

The update is not listed. The problem maybe that this is a SP2 update & I have installed SP3. I noticed that when searching as you suggested.

I assume you've also attempted the whole reboot process too (if it were so easy....). Have you attempted to apply the update again, then look for the patch and remove it?

This is one of those uncommon complaints, and I'm running out of ideas. XD

Murrayallen... welcome to pcworld communities I'm assuming that the copy of windows that you have is a geniune copy and not just a copy of a copy ... what you will need to do is go to your windows update web page and let the computer check for the latests update and when you get to the point where if it is custom or express select custom and from there it should give you the option to install the updates that you need if this update happens to be one of the ones that you dont need then I would worry bout it select only the ones that are applicable to you.. let me know how this turns out ..... best of luck

It worked! Installed, deleted & installed again. The shield is gone! Thanks for your help!
