After reading about SeaMonkey in the May 2006 Issue of PCW I downloaded it ASAP. It has an IRC client A mail/newsread utility, an HTML composer, and an adress book. I love Seamonkey!

[quote name='michaelgoonan']There is only one downfall of Opera, and it is that some sites on the Internet (particularly MS sites, although they don't support Firefox either) don't fully support the browser. Apparently PCWORLD doesn't even have full Opera support. I cannot click on any of the links in the menu above the forum that say "FAQ" "Search" and so on, and so I have to open Safari to edit my profile. This is a new design though, so I'm sure they're working on it, at least I hope so.They seem to have fixed this up now :D

In my opinion, I use Firefox lately, but I have used Opera and Internet Explorer 7 and I basically like them all. Alternative Browsers have to be my favorite... primarly because of the security that comes with not having activeX (altough it can be disabled in Internet Explorer).I actually don't have a preference of my "super-favorite" browser here, but I will post some pros and cons that I have found of each browser, being on my dialup connection and all.Mozilla Firefox:Pros: Secure browser, very customizable, has themes and addons which make it very cool and productive. Firefox has an automatic update system, makes it fast for updates.Cons: I find it a little slow loading some sites, like the 1and1 control panel and some other sites as opposed to Internet Explorer 7 and Opera, maybe it is just my connection...Opera 9Pros: It has widgets, they are fun little things but not as cool as Firefox's addons, Opera is the fastest browser I've ever saw on my dialup connection, primarly because it loads the text of the page before images, and you can choose to only load cached images, which makes it load pages super-fast (or no images, if you prefer). Cons: I find if you choose the default option, show images; it just keeps reloading them everytime you click a new link and navigate throughout whatever site you are visiting. Also, Opera doesn't work properly with some websites that I find interesting. Internet Explorer 7Pros: Full compatibility, and finally has tabs and other essential features that Internet Explorer 6 and below definitely missed. Internet Explorer 7 is actually pretty stable for a beta release (I am referring to beta 3 here) and the design and look, even though a bit confusing and much different than previous versions and other alternative browsers, once you get used to it, its pretty cool in my opinion. Something good: It has a built in phishing filter that helps detect phishing websites as you visit them.Cons: Security. ActiveX is a good feature, and makes sites fully compatible with Internet Explorer but it is a bit annoying and can result in security holes, but as long as you stay on the safe side of the Internet, you should be fine. Internet Explorer is, unforunately, a target for hackers primarly because it is used by the most of computer users, therefore it is a better target for profit reasons for hackers, spyware makers, etc. etc.Internet Explorer 6Pros: Full compatibilty. That's all I can find. Also it is currently the newest stable release of Internet Explorer, as version 7 is currently in beta 3. Cons: It doesn't even have tabs, which is an essential feature for web browsing unless you actually like having a million windows open at a time. Like Internet Explorer 7 above, this version also has security issues. It also doesn't have a phising filter, like IE7.NetscapeI can't write a review for Netscape as I haven't used it for a couple years now, and I can't remember much about it. It was in fact my first browser, back when Netscape Communicator 4.7 was out and new, thats how I started using the web. Oh the memories.Mozilla SuiteWe use this one at school, and I must say it is pretty good. I can't really write a review on this one either because at school we have restricted access, student accounts, so we can't analyze and fool around with the features or settings all that much. But it is a pretty speedy browser, and it has tabs, so thats a good thing. The file size is huge, especially for dialup users, but it does include other softwares in the suite so thats a plus.Ehh, thats just my opinion.

He said that the Mozilla Suite has been replaced by SeaMonkey, and something about 12 MB, I'm guessing that's the download size or memory usage.

u said that the sea monkey download was huge. a huge download is like 500MB like Office 2007 Beta. 12Megabytes is not that big. I dwonloaded SeaMonkey in about 15 seconds on a broadband connection.

Ihave IE on my system just for updates but I don't use the browser bae. I don't use any of them, just have Google or yahoo etc on your faves and click on when you want to go on the web. I've learned and my tech guy is forever preaching it, why give people another way into your system. I guess people like looking at all the pretty colored buttons or something. I have seen some people with 30 different items on their browser and anyone of them could be a possible entry point, I don't care what kinda security you run. 8) "The only way is through"
