Help! I have asked Gateway for their help - they obviously don't know what it is, maybe one of the readers knows. Whenever my desktop monitor is idle for more than 15 minutes it locks into either a basketweave pattern or black screen from which there is no exit except a cold shut down. I have defragged (3 hours plus) and run several antivirus programs - nothing seems to help. I have a Windows_vista system.

What do you have your "Power Options" (or whatever Vista calls that control panel) set to do?

You might have to wait for me to be able to re-boot into Vista to see what options there are before I might be able to help more at this point...I am not familiar with Vista's power/sleep/hibernate options off the top of my head.

In the mean time, someone else might be able to offer some help.
