My parents psu had just died and they needed still use the harddrive. So i had unplugged/removed my hdd (Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.B) and plugged in theirs. I rescued there data and then i started up my harddrive. At first i was getting a windows/system32/drivers/wdf01000.sys status 0xc0000221 error and vista (vista business sp1 32bit) can not boot. I put in my vista DVD and did the system repair.
This is where my problems start the DVD did not give me the options such as command prompt etc... It went right into startup repair automaticly. This didn't work. After about 6 times of doing this and still failing I booted up (i don't know how). I was really slow, had applications failing left and right, and my hdd would click once and i would freeze then click again and i would unfreeze, did this multiple times. I then got stuck in my log off screen, no freeze just forever trying to log off. I had left it there for 12 hrs and still no change. so i cut power and now i get the bootbcd status 0xc0000225 error occured while attempting to read boot configuration data. again i go to my vista dvd and try system repair. Again it automaticly goes to startup repair. But now i will start to repair and about 15-30mins in i will get a blue screen of death and start all over.
So please help me. I don't want to do a clean reinstall if i don't have to.

additional info: my parents HDD, don't know make but it has a xp sp3

I have an addtional hdd that i use as a back up (last back up 3 days before problems using Shadow Copy) and in start up i get the windows/system32/drivers/wdf01000.sys status 0xc0000221 message. I have tried to repair it. For this HDD i do get my repair options but windows finds no errors. When i try to do a clean install i will get half way through and i will get the message windows has failed to prepare to reboot, installation cancelled. Restart and try again. note: Any data erasing/ potentaly damageing solutions i would like to try on this HDD first.
