Generally speaking, when it comes to "registry cleaner" type programs, it would be Best to
AVOID these kinds of programs, since their potential for harm greatly exceed any positive
effect . For what experienced, certified, Volunteer "Microsoft Most Valuable Professionals"
say on this "topic", read through the Info @ aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 .
As to "RegFix Pro", Best Info is that you have been conned, because the experienced,
certified, Volunteer "Malware Removal Specialists" at the highly regarded Malwarebytes.org
have determined this to be One of the many "Rogue" programs circulating over the internet .
See their Info at [http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=14444&hl=RegFix] .
The FREE Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware program is One of our most highly recommended
programs and can be downloaded by going to [http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php] .

My daughter was getting her lap top ready for her Iraq deployment and I told her to put RFP on her computer. Its so great etc etc..just smack me with a motherboard.
She did and they said she need error fix first so they charged her for it and we were going to use my addional computer set up that came with RFP and guess what nothing worked. Her Error fix just kept running and scanning and telling her she had thousands of bad files but given she is the myspace queen sounds about right. Now she is mad at me because her LapTop is soooo messed up and nothing at all is running right. Now mine is evidentally going to throw itself off the H/P cliff.
I will run the programs you said and will really say some mean things to the RFP people. (wont do any good but will make me feel better)
Any and all further advice is welcomed with open arms.

For a more detailed description of "Rogues", view the Info at
www.bleepingcomputer.com/malware-removal/rogue-programs . Since you were
having problems PRIOR to installing that "program", we would be willing to take a look
at what is ON your computer AFTER you have run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware scans until
nothing is "detected", by installing the FREE "HijackThis" program that is available at
[http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis] . Assuming a successful installion, start
the HijackThis program, then click "Open the Misc Tools section" button, then click the
"Open Uninstall Manager" button . Hopefully, a "List" should appear !? Computer "copy",
then "paste" that "List" into a "Reply" here .
I differ from Coastie in that I do NOT recommend using the "registry fix" portion of CCleaner
and recommend the FREE Alternative "ATF Cleaner" developed by antiSPYWARE Expert
"A Tribune" and available at his website at
[http://www.atribune.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=25&Itemid=25] .
In case you may be interested in what I recommend for security for a computer with a
Win XP Operating System, view the Info at [http://forums.pcworld.com/docs/DOC-1141|d-1141] .

I have some Recommendations and I need you to provide additional Info regarding
"Others" :
1) Sun's Java ( "J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4", "Java 6 Update 13", &
"Java 6 Update 7" ) - should ONLY have 1 "Version/Update", hopefully the latest,
and since "6 Update 13" is the latest, the other 2 should be uninstalled . Since you seem
to be having difficulty with this program, I recommend you try the FREE "JavaRa" from
raproducts.org/ .
2) Adobe's Flash Player & Shockwave Player - the Flash Player has "superceded" the
Shockwave Player, so recommend the Shockwave Player be uninstalled .
3) Bonjour - reliable Info indicates this is unnecessary ; Best to uninstall it by using the
Info @ [http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2008/02/10/how-to-uninstall-or-remove-bonjour-mdnsresponderexe/] .
4) Verizon High Speed Internet & AOL Toolbar - need some additional Info regarding
these 2 ; assuming you are using Verizon, does it make use of the AOL Toolbar ?
Do you use this "toolbar" for anything nowadays ? IF the answer is "no" to both
Questions, I recommend you uninstall that "toolbar" .
5) Windows Installer CleanUp - it's unusual to see this on someone's computer ;
would like to know the "circumstances" as to HOW & WHY this is on your machine !?
Equally "puzzling" is the LACK of a "Listing" for "Windows Installer" !? I ask you to look in
the "Add or Remove Programs" section of your computer and see IF it is "listed" there
and let us know WHAT you find, IF anything !? For example on my computer, I have a
"Windows Installer 3.1 ( KB893803)" .
6) Windows XP Service Pack 3 - Assuming this SPECIFIC Operating System was NOT
on your computer when you got it, how long ago did you download this onto your
computer and relative to getting this does/did the Script Errors begin ? The Script
Errors MAY also be "related" to what I asked in "5)" .
7) Filehippo.com Update Checker - I realize you have wisely uninstalled this BETA
( experimental ) program ; the best "Update Checker" to be considered to be used in the
future is the FREE "Software Inspector" available at
[http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanner/online] . However, to use this program requires
a Java program be on the computer .

Yes, it is not strictly necessary, but it can make it a lot easier to connect to some network devices. Thus, it depends on the user. If they find it useful, then they might be better off keeping it.
