Okay here is what I have done. Did the java removal. shock bonjour and aol tool bar.

I can not tell you about the windows installer cleaner thingy because it is a mystery. It started showing up back when my computer started having issues. It went away with RFP (which is how I was so duped....seemed to think everything was Fixed by the Professional Registry elves) Sudden;y it is back. I do not show just windows installer.

The windows xp service pack three. I think I did that when we were trying to figure out what was wrong during the great computer meltdown crisis of 2008. I want to say I may have downloaded it thinking i had lost part of my xp. (can it get any worse?)

Question...Once I have used the Revo and other programs to fix things do I uninstall them or keep them for use in the future?



Should I run the hijack again to show if things are on track?

Hey, keep em for further use. I have Revo uninstaller in here as well as Malwarebytes and superantispyware. The last two are for further scanning from time to time. Heck they are free, why not. Yeah, after you have finished, post another log form Hijack This ! so we can see what you have. coastie

Hi, Ok, if it doesn't come up with Revo, than click on START > ACCESSORIES > WINDOWS EXPLORER. When the screen comes up, Click the SEARCH button, then on the left, click ALL FILES and FOLDERS. Ubder look in, click Local Hard Drive ( C:). The click MORE ADVANCED OPTIONS. under that check: System Folders, Hidden Folders, & Sub Folders. Then click the search button. coastie

Error(s)" Messages including SPECIFICALLY WHAT constituted the "computer
meltdown of 2008", the possible premature "Upgrade" ( possibly "corrupted" ) of
Windows XP SP3 Operating System, the lack of any mention in your "Uninstall Log"
of either "Internet Explorer" ( any "Version" ) or "Windows Installer" ( any "Version" )
and the mention of "Windows Installer CleanUp" .

I feel the Best Source of help would be an experienced, trained, Volunteer "Microsoft
Most Valuable Professional(s)" that staff the Support forums at http://aumha.net .
Since I thought you MAY have a "Windows Installer" problem, I found a "Repair
Windows Installer Errors" Topic on those Aumha.net forums at
http://aumha.net/vie...hp?f=62&t=33406 which mentions uninstalling XP SP3,
then getting One of the "Windows Installer" versions, but since the topic is about
1 year old, do not know HOW appropiate it may be nowadays, especially since a
"Windows Installer 4.5" now exists !?

Okay here is best info I can give you. I am sorry I do not have exact date but late October my ex husband brought my daughter back home. He asked if he could use my computer. (no problems with it to this point) I said I dont allow people to access you tube, myspace etc from my computer. He said no problem. Within a few hours he said my computer was acting weird and it was a solid color screen and froze. I freaked and shut it down at power source rebooted and same thing. I asked him what he was doing and he was making friends on myspace. OMG! he said that myspace wouldnt allow anything bad and his friends were all safe because he talks to them all the time. Can you see part of divorce reason? Well I cried and worked for days trying slowly to bring it back to life. IE would run, lost itunes, just a nightmare. Then with script errors that were slamming me at every turn a guest said that I should try to reinstall windows xp and somehow thru the home site I got 3 service pack. So my fault on that one i am sure. So needles to say I tried toreconstruct what was missing, lost etc on my own. BIG mistake.

Now when i boot up i keep getting this windows installer and then a solutions center error. I am not sure what solution center is.

Hi, Ok. SP3 was installed in October. That was a beta version. I would suggest that you unistall it then go to www.windowsupdate.com and get the Release version which is now out. You may need to have IE installed and set as your default browser in order to do this. I think this may at the very least a part of your problem. coastie

I didn't see any of the PC's specs. It might help if we get

that info. IF the member has a AMD then SP3 will be a problem

In my opinion, SP3 should NOT be installed on

a defective PC . It is already hard enough to make it work

on a good install , a defective one will just aggrevate the

members situation.



Also, You cannot Uninstall Internet Explorer. It is part of

the OS (XP) and as such will only revert back to IE6 which

was the original installed IE for XP.

Hey Flashorn, I Thought that AMD mess was related to HP in that they switched a MOBO from Intel to AMD and left some Intel residue in there that caused a bunch of problems. I was dealing with a problem at this end at the time of that post as my monitor suddenly decided to into standby. :p I think I got it, but we'll see. Anyway, some system specs would be helpful. I haven't heard of any issues between AMD and SP3, just the ones I just related. Either way, That SP3 that was installed IS a beta release and probably shouldn't have been installed. coastie

Sorry it took so long to reply. I have been having problems with the

ISP since last Friday and now , no phone.



OK, this problem with SP3 and AMD was first detected with the HP

Desktop and not the notebooks but, this situation is not confined

to a specific assembler. It pertains to AMD desktops on the whole.

If a assembler uses the same image to install on AMD and Intel

then , the possibility of this is as good as on other AMD based machines.



Also, Norton is a known factor for all kinds of troubles on AMD based

desktops and notebooks with SP3. So, my question. Is this a AMD based

desktop?? We already know that the member has Norton installed.

Okay I downloaded from the link you gave me. It gave me #2 deployment tools. It worked thru Firefox.

Hi, Yeah, you should uninstall SP 3 as it is a beta anyway then install SP2 as well as any possible upgrades, although you may have gotten them the latest on the download. As for Norton, You will not find many, if any, fans of that thing around this community. As for a replacement, Avast! is a good antivirus ( I am using it ) and is FREE. www.Avast!.com . As for the Antispyware, I am using webroot spysweeper as it comes free with the Internet service. SUPERantispyware is a good free app, but the free home version doesn't give you real time active protection. I have it installed as a backup scan option. It too is very good. To remove Norton, you use Add / Remove programs. once that is done, you have to download and run their removal tool. I also recommend running CCleaner after that to be on the safe side. coastie

Several PRECAUTIONS should be done PRIOR to upGRADING ( from SP2 to SP3, for

example ) an Operating System. which I feel should include the following :

1) Get the latest RELIABLE Info on possible problems; I trust the FREE "Windows Secrets"

& "Don't let XP3 hose your system" from http://WindowsSecrets.com/080911 is very good .

2) Make reasonable sure the computer is Malware-free ; practically speaking, nowadays

that means running the "Full Scan" of the FREE Ver of "SUPERAntiSpyware" from

www.superantispyware.com/ AND the "Free" Version of "Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

from [http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php] .

3) Get the latest PC Manufacturer "Driver" updates , IF there are any .

4) Make a "System Restore" Point, to go back to, IF the Installation is NOT successful .

Note : It is in the "Windows Secrets" article that it talks about possible "conflicts" with

Well things seem to be coming together. I did kick sp3 to the curb. I learned a lot in here and was able to rid the computer of some old deleted file remnants that were hanging around I could not previously make go away. So major Kudos to you all.

Problem I still have is the windows installer and installer clean up and this solution center thing. Whenever I turn my computer on in the morning everything in fine but it starts the window installer and then it comes to a solution center must have this disc to continue etc. I want to make sure windows installer can be removed what about the clean up? I do not want to make a horrible mistake on this. After I get that issue out of the way I will do another Hijack and make sure I have done everything y'all have said.

You all are amazing. I would say it is a gift that you all have to be so knowledgable about something some complicated.
