For some reason my computer (Dell E1505 laptop w/Windows XP media ed) won't play or install any software CD I put in it. Do you think upgrading to Explorer 7 has something to do with it. My internal and external CD/DVD show up on my computer but won't play.

Does the drive show up at all in my computer?

dos1955 - Welcome to the PC World forums. You state that it will not recognize or read CDs, have you tried DVDs?

The drives (D and any external drives) show up in my computer and the device manager and no they won't play CD's or DVD's.

I was concentrating on the internal drive and did not register the fact that you also have an external optical drive and that neither one will play. As they say on the cop shows, that would be a coincidence that they both quit at the same time, and like them I don't believe in coincidences.

Check the device manager and see if there are any exclamation or question marks for the drives.
