I have a Gateway p-7805u FX Series laptop. This particular model got awesome reviews, which is why I bought it. The problem I am having is with the AC adapter. It won't stay on. If the battery has a full charge, it works okay, but if it has a partial charge, the adapter cuts off and I have to unplug it and replug it back in. Its not the battery, I have tried running the laptop on the AC adapter only, and my computer will cut off. I have been in touch with gateway, and they are wanting my credit card info and they want me to pay the shipping to send the adapter back to them once I recieve the new one from them. I have never had to pay shipping on a product that is still under warranty. Any suggestions on how to fix this, or how to keep from paying gateway to fix a part that is still under warranty would be greatly appreciated.

Many companies have you pay shipping back to them for warranty work. All depends on how their warranty policy is spelled out.
Basically, it seems you have a couple options...
1) Live with it. The advantage of this options is that it free. ;) Downside is that you have to deal with the hassle of unplugging and replugging the adapter and hope it does not get worse.
2) Buy another adapter yourself. Potential advantage is that you could buy it from someone other than Gateway...but Gateway would still get some money (as that place had to "buy" it from Gateway), unless it is a used adapter. Downside is that it will likely be more expensive than paying for the shipping of the faulty adapter back to Gateway when having it replaced under warranty.
3) Have it replaced under warranty and pay to ship the old one back. If you go this path, you could "raise a stink" and threaten to never buy another Gateway again...who knows, maybe they will pay to ship it back to them to appease you. If not, then you are stuck paying for the shipping.
