Hi, I'm really not to familiar with where to buy PC parts from, as far as reputation, service, ease of returns (if that really happens anywhere but in an alternate universe), and general help.

I will be checking into a buying a LightScribe drive, a Video Card, and some misc. things on down the road. The only place I've really checked out is Newegg, do you all have any other thoughts or options.

Thanks, I really appreciate your help. Posted Image

I find newegg my favorite place for the components you've mentioned.

I like frozencpu.com for smaller stuff.

Thanks. I like the Customer Reviews on their web site, as that seems to be a helpful aide as far as peoples experiences with their purchases, and helpful suggestions they have in their posts.

I went to your link where you get your smaller stuff from, wow, lots of stuff. :)

Thanks, I think I'm starting to see a trend here... :)

I just wanted to make sure though, as allot of people here have much more experience PCing than I do, and I just wanted to head in the right direction and shop where the "big boys" shop. :)

I found a website that actually seems to be a retailer and the prices are much cheaper for components. Check it out. www.techtobuy.com

Car54: I'm not that well versed on the online category of retailers for computer parts. I'm spoiled by having a FRY'sElectronics store nearby and like to look at the physical parts before making my choice. They do have an online site that is pretty good by all reports and have a liberal return policy. They have most of the products on display, such as MOBOs so I can take dimensions and compare them to a chassis for fit and modification details. Their prices are very good and have a load of stuff on sale every week. Many items also have rebates but in my case I usually steer clear as many amnufacturer rebates get balled up and refused for one reason of another. This isn't the fault of the seller but the third party rebate companies.

Hey car, I deal with two and have had good experiences with both. NewEgg & TigerDirect. I primarily deal with NewEgg, but TigerDirect is good in a pinch. coastie

Even if it is the fault of the third party rebate company, it is still the responsibility of the seller (assuming it is a "seller" rebate rather than a "manufacturer" rebate). There has been some cracking down by the FTC and some State AGs on this. If it is a "seller" rebate (i.e. a rebate from Fry's) and you get "hassled" on getting it honored, then at a minimum go talk to the manager at Fry's and let him/her know that you will be reporting it to your State AG's office and the FTC and see if that will "kick them into gear". And if it does not, then report it. If it is a manufacturer rebate, then talk to both the manufacturer and the seller. When I complained to NewEgg about Logitech's (do not know if it was them directly or some third party rebate processing company) refusing to honor my perfectly good rebate submission, NewEgg credited me the amount.

SMAX: I've never had any problem with the sellers rebates, just the manufacturers rebates. Fry's is very prompt with their responses and even sends out e-mails to confirm your elligibility and when and where to check on the status. I have encountered problems with manufacturers rebates in the form of lost mail, or claims that original documents were missing or some other snafu. I lok for deals that are instant rebates or low prices offered by sellers that are at least as low or better than those selling with the rebates.

Rarely had any troubles myself. For that one example above, I do not know if it was technically a manufacturer's or seller's rebate...just know that when I griped about it to NewEgg, they credited me the amount and who ever was "processing" it basically told me to "pound sand".

I too mainly look for instant rebates or just general low prices, but I also will not "avoid" actual rebates. And when I do a rebate, I make copies of ALL the paperwork (forms, receipts, bar codes, etc) that I send in and have ZERO qualms about contacting my AG or the FTC if they give me a hard time...and will gleefully tell the rebate processors that I will contact my AG and the FTC (just as I tend to gleefully answer the phone these days to tell people that I will be reporting them to the Do Not Call list).
