SMAX: I've never had any problem with the sellers rebates, just the manufacturers rebates. Fry's is very prompt with their responses and even sends out e-mails to confirm your eligibility and when and where to check on the status. I have encountered problems with manufacturers rebates in the form of lost mail, or claims that original documents were missing or some other snafu. I lok for deals that are instant rebates or low prices offered by sellers that are at least as low or better than those selling with the rebates.
Rarely had any troubles myself. For that one example above, I do not know if it was technically a manufacturer's or seller's rebate...just know that when I griped about it to NewEgg, they credited me the amount and who ever was "processing" it basically told me to "pound sand".
I too mainly look for instant rebates or just general low prices, but I also will not "avoid" actual rebates. And when I do a rebate, I make copies of ALL the paperwork (forms, receipts, bar codes, etc) that I send in and have ZERO qualms about contacting my AG or the FTC if they give me a hard time...and will gleefully tell the rebate processors that I will contact my AG and the FTC (just as I tend to gleefully answer the phone these days to tell people that I will be reporting them to the Do Not Call list).
