my only negative note about HP is that the factory installed hitachi or toshiba laptop hard drives arent very good IMO
plus the power requirement is 1.0A... so battery life is lessened because of this... arrrr :P
this is the second time i have heard the hard drive on my hp dv5z laptop screech (i've only had the computer ~7 months)
it is hard to describe but it sorta started out as a high pitched whine and then it sounded like all hell broke loose (like the heads crashing onto the platter)
my win7 o/s didnt bsod or crash, but firefox was delayed in opening until the hdd recovered
as i write, i am running a backup of my files onto my network drive
i am a fan of western digital so im set on a brand for a replacement,
quick question, does $60 for a 250gb WD drive sound like a good deal?

I suspect one of my 3.5" desktop 250 GB Seagate drives that is in my internal RAID 1 array is dying. It will work fine for a while, but then sometimes will develop a high pitched whine. Or at least I believe it is the drive. I currently have it unplugged and have not had the sound for several days. I will likely plug it back in and see if the sound comes back. Regardsless, I am going to replace the two 250 GB drives with two new 1 TB drives...still in the RAID 1 array.

Don't know if it is a "good" deal, but it not a bad deal. Sounds about right. I recently upgraded my MacBook Pro's drive to the WD 500 GB 2.5" drive. If I recall, it was about $100.
