There is another programming way to go, LUA (lua.org) is a good language for kids too, it is used in Roblox (roblox.com) to script, Roblox is a online game where you can script build and play virtual worlds!

Apparently, it seems that our youth (me especially, at 16) are already self-teaching C++. I got a book on C++ from the library, and was engrossed in it. Scratch can certainly help promote the software engineering learning curve. And Scratch could also help with the role of us Americans in the tech industry. If they learn about software developmemnt, they can easily learn about hardware development. And if they learn about hardware development, they've just mastered the PC! This could help increase the skill of kids' brains. If kids learn programming languages at a young age, they become computer literate at a young age. And computer literacy is what we want and need to propel us Americans into the future. Of course, we need to go ahead of China/Communism, don't we? And we can only do it if we work together on improving computer literacy throughout the population.
Best regards,
