I have been working on a blog on Wordpress for a few months. Last month, I downloaded AVAST anti-virus software which I like alot. But, today, I was terminated by Wordpress. Their pop up said I had Javascript disabled. In my Tool>Options Window it says Javascript is Enabled. Below, down in the right corner of my screen I get the Avast windows which I selectively allow some sites in that I trust. Can anyone tell me what is going on and what I need to do? I will understand if it is explained to me carefully. Thanks, John

If it doesn't work.........DO this if you'r 100% trust the site your trying to log-in.....:

Right click .....Avast button "In system tray" .....click "stop on Access protection .....This will temporary disable Avast to test see if you can log-in Worldpress....

I don't think Avast blocking it......If Avast detects virus ...It'll ask you to "Abort" ....the connection......

No, Avast is not blocking it. I think Wordpress needs for me to enable Javaand aAvast doesn't recognize this and block some Javascript needed by Wordpress. I think. Anyway, I did what you suggested. No needed changes in Control Panel > Java. I right clicked for Avast - Didn't see anything called Access protection. I went to No Script Options > Plugins > and saw a box checked "Forbid Java". Should I uncheck this box and will this make my computer vulnerable. Also, Wordpress notification said that "I am terminated'. I don't think they will let me log in no matter what I do now and I don't understand why.

When you right click on the little blue ball with an "A" on it down in the System Tray (lower right corner) do you get something like this?

No, I see it. I wasn't right clicking the ball. If I Stop Access won't this leave my computer unprotected? And, do you want me to go ahead and try to do it and log into Wordpress? John

Before trying the "full" Stop Access (which kills all of Avast), see if you can go to Pause Provider and see if there is a Script Blocking option to pause. Avast does have a script blocking module (Pro does at least...don't know if the free version has the same thing or not). I don't know if it blocks Javascript or not (it can't fully as this forum uses Javascript and both you and I see to be able to use the forum fine and we are both running Avast), but you might try it.

Your "Situation" would Best be helped on the Avast Support Forums, particularly the One

at forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2.0 ; however, since you mentioned you

recently began to use Avast, One of the "Preliminaries" is to make sure the PRIOR

antivirus was COMPLETELY REMOVED, including the use of any existing "Removal

Tool" !? What was your prior antivirus program ?

P.S. Last I heard, the FREE Ver of Avast does NOT have a Script Blocking module .

Yes, I do have a Pause Provider AND a Stop Provider. When clicking the Pause Provider I see the option on clicking 1) Internet Mail, 2) Instant Messaging, 3) Network Shield, 4) P2p Shield, 5) Standard Shield, and 6) Web Shield.

Looks like the free version might not have the Script Shield/Blocker module.

I don't know what that means but I have done a few things because I had no choice. I went to Google to start a new blog there. I obtained a gmail ccount and may go back into Wordpress and start over. And, I went into the Avast Forum site and posted there. The Avast forum site is not a suser friendly as PCWorld. I recommend PCWorld to everyone I know. Thanks, Smax.

:D Hi John :

Since I occasionally provide advice on the Avast Support FORUMS, which are very User

Friendly, I just finished looking through the Topics on the SPECIFIC "sub-forum" I had

referred you to and saw nothing resembling your problem ; did you post a Request for Help

on the Support FORUMS or at the not-so-User friendly Avast Support "CENTER" !? The

Avast Support FORUMS are very active, and in your "situation" probably either or both

"DavidR" or "Tech" would most likely have an ANSWER to your problem !?

Any reason as to WHY you did NOT answer my question about a prior antivirus !?

Spiritwind, thanks for the help. My prior anti-virus was AVG (?). Anyway, It was completely deleted from my computer. I completed all those steps properly. The Avast forum site I am probably just not used to but I am working on it. I can be really impatient.

Let me tell what I have learned from playing around with my Yahoo e-mail account. I click ""keep me signed in for two weeks", but it wasn't doing this (keeping me signed in). I went to investigate why and learned to click on the white S at the bottom right of my window to bring up NoScript. Then I clicked "Options". Then went over to "Advanced" and read the "ignore unsafe cookies from the following sites". I typed in http://www.yahoo.com/ and clicked "O.K.". Now when I go to my Yahoo e-mail account I do not have to sign in all over again. This got me thinking that I would try to do this same thing but type in the http://www.Wordpress.com/ address. What do you think about this? And again, thanks for the input. John

Posted Image Hi John :

On the Avast Online Support Forums, we frequently recommend that those who have used

AVG Antivirus ALSO run the APPROPIATE "Removal Tool" at

www.avg.com/download-tools ; have you done that ?

Also I use a Yahoo email account and I NEVER stay "signed-in" for 2 weeks because of

security concerns ; I ALWAYS sign out AFTER I am through ; would recommend you do

likewise . You should NOT be "ignoring cookies from unsafe Sites" because more than

likely they are of the "tracking" - type which invade your privacy . Would be wise to read the

PCWorld "Document" I wrote at [http://forums.pcworld.com/docs/DOC-2144|d-2144] .

Great advice. I will take it too. I will undo the Yahoo cookie thing. Today, I quickly produced a blog at Blogger.com. I went to publish it and for some reason it stopped me. I think I am having the same kind of problem. I still don't what to do. Any ideas? Noone has responded on the Avast Forum site yet but I'm sure they will soon. Also, put my question out in the Blogger.com forum. later. John Oh, and I ran that removal tool you told me about before I ever ran Avast.

:D Hi John :

Just finished looking through the 3 most appropiate Avast Forums looking for a Topic

"Heading" similar to your problem and still see nothing . What User "Name" are you

using and what SPECIFIC forum did you post ? Perhaps you should post a "Link" to

your Post there !?

By the way, several yrs ago I discovered that Yahoo uses a privacy-invading "web beacon"

and I "opted-out" ; you can do likewise by clicking "Privacy Policy" at the bottom of the

main Yahoo site, then click "Opt-Out" under "Highlights", then click the orange "Opt-Out"

button . Of course, you need to be logged into your Yahoo account for this to be effective .

Well done on running the AVG Removal Tool; few know about it unless told .
