i have found my summer project-
on paper it sounds really cool and i know of many people that would like using this

my project idea is to start an sms 2 verse (or txt to scripture) system


the user would send a text to a custom email address (like- verse(a t)bibleproject.org ) or a 6 digit sms number like 287-449 (google sms is 466-453)


in the text, the requested verse and translation (Acts 2:11 NIV)


website is taken care of, so no worries there
i have the bible ready to go


my main notes are these-


first, finding a program (or programs) that can search for verses from a recieved email/text and then replying with the requested verse


second, is how to register the custom email or sms number with my IP address


third, i need some beefier security to keep exploits/email macros from destroying the sms/email server/takeover/spamming


fourth, would windows or linux be better for this project?
fifth, what email server/sender program should i use? (is apache or xampp good for something like this?)
sixth, does something like this need more computing muscle than the average home computer?


when the server is up and running, there are some little details like splitting the reply message into two or three messages if the first reply exceeds 160 characters...or hopping the reply to the mms email address instead of the sms address of the phone


maybe a custom script in thunderbird can do that...


now, what am i missing? lol

i have an update, for testing/when the main server isnt working... i can configure mozilla thunderbird to reply to a specific kind of incoming message.

the only problem with this is that i have to manually enter each bible verse as a template in thunderbird--- and then thunderbird can reply to that message with the appropiate template

i really need a search/email program to automatically search/query for the verse that has been requested and then send

im halfway there =)
