Hey lil, That Windows search has ended up in here twice and twice I have removed it. I prefer Windows Explorer. Still have a lot bloatware to deal with. This thing came with Vista Home Premium ( 32 bit). After having dealt with it since noon, I don't like it one bit. Defrag takes a long time as it as been going for a bit now and there isn't that much on here. I may get a wireless mouse as it may be a bit easier for my Mom to use. I just have to see how she does with the touch pad. I am doing this from my Desk top with XP MCE 2005. The lappy is on a table next to me.

I would also tweak the services so you can disable the ones not needed. I use [http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/servicecfg.htm] to disable unnecessary services. Especially windows search!!

The defrag is slower than molasses. I like the one in XP as it has the pretty bar to look at, this has nothing. I have had that Windows Search in here twice, the second time was an accident. I got rid of it as I prefer Windows Explorer.

yah, I was disappointed with Vistas Defragger also, I couldn't see it in action and it's before and after results. If you ever wanted to later on install a free version, but Vistas would be pretty easy for her to use if she ever needed to. Did you disable the auto defragging that Vista will automatically run, for her needs she might not need it to run that often?

>I'm sitting here with a new Gateway Lappy on a table next me doing Windows updates. I have MSN Premium through Verizon FiOS, so I clicked on the Safety Button on the tool bar and installed WebRoot Spysweeper for the Anti Spyware and installed Avast! for the AntiVirus. Evetbody has their own personal likes and dislikes for various reasons. Anyway, always fun setting up a new computer. If I am still sane after dealing with a laptop with Vista it will be a miracle. coastie

Ah, so it's for your mother. Sound's like she'll be happy!

Yeah, if she doesn't get frustrated first. I brought up the solitaire game to get her used to the touch pad & buttons. May get a wireless mouse for her if she has too much of a problem. I know I got frustrated yesterday when filling out forms. I would move the pointer to the next line and forget to click and end up typing in the line I was in. I don't like Vista either. :p I haven't set up the web cam as yet. I'm tired of fooling with it for the time being. I got the Recovery discs made and the wireless internet conctiion set up as well as the security software installed. I also got the Micro$oft updates done. I'll go back and start getting rid of the bloatware later and tweak it some.
