I am SO confused and would be so grateful if I could get some help. I have bought a new computer from an internet cafe outlet and it already has CA Security Centre installed. It's just sitting there quietly in the background and does a scan every day. Has anyone tried this and would I be better to download Avast which seems to be the hot topic at the moment. I am a 60 yr old woman with limited computer 'savvy' so need something that is 'idiot proof' !!
Having just read some of the discussions, I have also just downloaded Malwarebytes and did a scan and removed several hundred nasties. Also for a couple of weeks, each time i go to another page (site), down the bottom there is a message " Done, but with errors on page" I have tried downloading a few things lately, then removed them and it's happened since then. Any suggestions with all of the above please.

The "CA Security Centre" is inappropiate since you have "converted" that computer to
Home use; in addition, the fact that Malwarebytes found several hundred "nasties" should
raise the Question as to HOW effective that "CA Security Centre" actually is. Eventually, you
will be expected to BUY that program, so it seems wise to switch NOW to a good and FREE
antiVIRUS program, such as Avast Antivirus Home Edition . For details about that Avast
program, see the Info at www.avast.com/eng/avast-free-home-antivirus-antispyware.html .
The Steps to be used to "switch" the 2 programs would be :
1) DOWNLOAD, but do NOT "INSTALL" Avast
2) "UNINSTALL" the CA Security Centre ; since you have NOT told us the SPECIFIC "Name"
of the computer's "Operating System", I can not be more specific. IF you have a Vista
Operating System, then you look in the computer's "Programs and Features" section and
uninstall it from there. IF you know what a "Windows Search" is, to it and "Delete" any
"CA Security" or "Computer Associates" Items it finds .
3) Go off the internet
4) "INSTALL" the Avast program
5) Go back on the internet and "UPDATE" the Avast program .
NOTE : One of the Advantages to having Avast is that there are excellent Online Support
Forums at [http://forum.avast.com/] to help IF a problem arises .
NOTE : ANYTIME a security program says it "detects" something, should ALWAYS
initially "QUARANTINE" what was "detected"; do NOT initially "DELETE" the "Detection".
Then inquire on the Support Forums about the correct course of action that should be
taken; this appies to antiVIRUS program(s).
I occasionally get "Done, but with errors on page" Messages, but do not concern
myself about them and ignore them . But I stand corrected IF someone has a
different recommendation about them .

I get such messages all the time with these forums. I believe it has to do with how the website that you are looking at codes their webpage...sometimes there might be minor errors in the HTML or Javascipt coding. Generally, it is a not issue, but sometimes it might result in minor display issues.

Thank you for your prompt reply ( I on the other hand have just noticed the 'reply' bit down the bottom of your answer !!! sorry ). Anyway, your info was most helpful and I have installed Avast Home Edition. I just removed CA Security, through the 'remove hardware' icon in control panel. Cheers...Elise
