Adobe Acrobat 9 downloads updates automatically anytime I start using it. How can I stop automatic downloads?

uninstall adobe and switch to foxit for reading pdf

If you go to the Help menu in Acrobat (is it Acrobat Reader or full Acrobat), there should be a "Check for Updates..." option. Select it. It should bring up the Adobe Update applicaiton. It should list if there are any updates...but there should also be a Preferences button at the bottom of the window. Clicking it should bring up a window that will allow you to uncheck "Automatically check for Adobe updates"...or adjust how it does such checks.
