Since I'm constantly evaluating them, i'm running through a bunch. See All-in-One Security and Virus Fighters stories for our top rated security suite and antivirus products. Our ratings for antispyware products should come out in the next few weeks online (end of august, i think) and in october in print. With anitspyware programs, a second opinion is not a bad idea. Just don't run two scans at the same time. And with AV programs, completely uninstall one before installing the next one. Thanks for posting,Narasu

Virus scan? don't have one. or a firewall. It's a marketing ploy, the antivirus companies are the ones who are writing the viruses, to create a demand for their product. As for firewalls, who needs one? not me, that's for sure.me: [img:a8f3df7486]http://www.geocities...y/ostridge.jpg+

Seeing as I'm on Linux, I only use an antivirus, for which I do a combination of ClamAV and Antivir.

I havespybot search and destroyadware seewidoavg freezonelabs freespyguardspyblasterI really like the spyguard and spyblaster, theres a lot less, I mean a lot less spyware that gets on the system. It prevents it which is better then cleaning it off later. It use to be routine if I didn't scan in a few days to find a few other then 'non negligable' spyware on my system. Now all i get is tracking cookies. Definatly worth it.

True that, prevention is far less time-consuming.

[quote name='AuroraManson']indeedIndeed! That is why I prefer to have a layered defense system. The best cure is prevention. You don't know what malware/virus would strike next.

and with no firewall, antivirus or spyware scanner on your system you sound a little stupidYou don't have to go to illicit sites in order to get a virus, or spyware. Hell this one time I redid my operating system, left it on, didn't go anywhere at all. One night its already screwed up. Random ip address attacks I imagine. So if you don't care about pop up ads, people tracking where your going, keyloggers, spyware, worms, and viruses go ahead. But I've had my comptuer screw up too many times visiting normal websites. If you don't even believe in protection I don't know why you bother to come into this section of the forum in the first place. Anti-malware programs are very importaint.

I never claimed i didn't have a spyware scanner, and i don't need a firewall or virus scan, because i go to a few choice sites, and don't download anything. duh, prevention is key. That way i don't have to waste my money on useless software.[quote:1209e8b9e0]You don't have to go to illicit sites in order to get a virus, or spyware. [/quote:1209e8b9e0]I seriously doubt a "random" ip attack installed spyware on your computer, i think you were stupid enough insall it yourself.[quote:1209e8b9e0]If you don't even believe in protection I don't know why you bother to come into this section of the forum in the first place.[/quote:1209e8b9e0]this forum isn't about security only, incase you missed the title. It's not that i don't believe in security, it's i don't believe in wasting my money on virus scanners and firewalls, when i don't have a static ip, or download things from random webpages, or even go to a webpage where that would be an issue. And as for people tracking where i go, i really don't care because i tell everyone where i go anyways.[quote:1209e8b9e0]Anti-malware programs are very importaint.[/quote:1209e8b9e0]I never said it wasn't.-peaceCosmo

the pop up ads that pop up without being on a browser is what I was refering to.I didn't install anything on my computer I reinstalled the os if you can reread it, it was simply connected to the internet with no protection.I like you and I don't want to fight with you but sometimes you just rub me the wrong way, well ok most of the time.

You argue with me too, outside of this post. Eitherway I was responding to the paranoid thing as it was to him, but in a sense to me as well.I know other people though who are computer savvy but don't believe in firewalls and spyware removers and stuff.Sometimes I sell stuff online. I can't afford to get keyloggers spyware.

@cosmoI may be a little paranoid but what the heck! I won't let any malware hold me hostage and limit my browsing the internet. The internet is free and for everyone to use.

Companys writing viruses and antiviruses. OK. On this site is a post what heppened when you chating without anything to protect yourself (your computer). I use internet, so i have protection. I use:Ad-Aware SE PersonalSpybot Search & DestroyAvast! AntivirusZone AlarmSystem Mechanic 6 (gets the computer to go faster and has a popup protection program built in)I have used:Norton Internet Security-takes a long time to start up since it always has to run the Parental Control feature once you click on an internet browser even when disabled.McAffe Security-didn't protect all that well and was more of a nuisance than anything. There was one more but I can't remember the name-after I installed it, it wanted me to pay more for what the box said it would do-I returned it to Best Buy.
