We use the internet for anything from online banking to video movie rentals and more. Above it all the one thing many of us do is connect to the world and friends about common interests or just sharing our thoughts through blogs tweets, and instant messages.

What sites do you use to connect with the world? Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, web forums, just email or instant messages?

The internet has become a very important part of our family communications. Between e-mails using direct boxes through our ISP, the usual hotmail and we still use Excite which was our first ISP. I like to use photobucket, flicker and imageshack to post photos for everyone to see and swap shots within the family. The kids like to use Myspace and twitter but I don't have that much time to waste on those venues. We still have the MSN and Yahoo messangers which are real handy for instant chats when we see others are online. I maintain a seperate machine for all to use for making purchases, online banking and bill paying. This insures that their laptops do not have any personal info on them in case they get stolen or compromised. I allow them to use their own personal units anyway they wish but enforce the security on the multi-user machines and server. This helps maintain at least some level of protection.

I use msn for IMing, I am signed for twitter, but haven't for a while ( no time). I do shop on here but do not do any banking and only pay a few Bills online. Swap pics witj family, most of which are in the pacific Norhwest ( Oregon & Washington ). I also find it useful for research. Just got a Gateway Lappy for my Mother and set up a wireless connection so she can retrieve her own email and surf.

How I connect, that was a nice pun Aurora, to the world. I do use online banking, not so much for auto withdraw accounts, but just maintaining the accounts I have. I download 1-2 rental movies a month from iTunes, and visit some web forums off and on. Since my family and friends are all in the 50+ age wise, we all tend to use email allot, as far as that's concerned. I thought mjd420nova's idea of a designated "purchasing" PC is a good idea.

Good question Aurora, by the way I still need to finishing listening to your reading of Edgar Allen Poe's The Black Cat, but so far what I've listened to, you've done a very nice job. Posted Image

Hmmm... I do not have any of the things mentioned - IM, Twitter, Facebook, etc., none of that. I kind of stay away from those places because of all of the brouhaha about them owning whatever you post there, malware, etc., etc....

Mainly I keep in touch with my fam through phone, and email (and texting too, sometimes.) I used to hang out at the Avatar Spirit website a lot, but I haven't visited there in quite a while, since the Avatar series was finished.

This is a really great question, I'm surprised the threat isn't longer.

I use twitter, Facebook, blogs and forums mostly to not only connect, but to get my news and info.

Yeah, I forgot to mention the forums. Besides this one, I also check in to Maximum PC and "The Unofficial eMachines Forum" from time to time. I also get over to XFire, but not on any regular basis, as it seems to be inactive most of the time. coastie

out many many application and social network that we have on the internet...still there is no short cut ways to connect to the world through internet. However i found out that there are 2 step we can do it.

First step: common interest (must be in business terms)

Second step: get connected closer (messenger, mobile phone, email) and frequently having contact with them

However it is very difficult to maintain our connection relationship with people unless that common interest always exist and there is activities that bring us together in it.

Tonight, it's through a dial up in a blacked out motel room in Kenai, Alaska. First day over, nap completed, ready to try out the local fishing. Silver Salmon are just finishing their spawning run and only a couple streams are still open until they finish. Then other streams will reopen when the Dolly Varden start their spawning runs. The blackout curtains are a must in the land of the midnight sun. I've been invited to dinner at a pilots home in nearby Soldotna tomorrow night, so I won't get much fishing done. Finished one oil platform and have thirteen to go and one shore facility to go. Have tentative plans to leave here next Wednesday with a short layover in Seattle. Dial up is soooo sloooow.
