I have encountered something in my computer. All sort of files and directory were duplicated with an addition of a number. For instance:In addition to MMessenger.exe I had also MMessenger(2).exeOr a folder named lima was changed into lika.Is that a virus? malware? hacker?Do you know what can it be? and how do you suggest to deal with it?Thanks in advance.

Hello, well I think that you have a virus problem but if you want being sure, launch your antivirus. If you can, use a spywer tool, frecuently that tools tell us if we have something code wrong in our PC's, see the results and if some is there, search in the web to find a way to remove.

lol this is funny. Do you have other people using your computer? If so, then they might have changed the folder's names, and they might have created a copy of the file. I often do that. FireFox becomes FireFox(2) and then I rename it. NO PROBLEMO!!!If not, then I think you have a virus issue.

yes, probably is a virus. However, check this! My dad had a similar problem on his WinXP machine. He would try to delete some files, and instead of deleting the files, it would make copies of them. Wierd. After a few weeks of doing this, and much aggravation , and getting no where, he called me to come over and fix the issue.I found out that the folder the files were in, was set as READ ONLY. I went into the properties of that folder, unchecked READ ONLY, clicked ok, and all was well again.Went in and deleted all the copies of the files and the original files just fine. No more copies, no more problems. If this doesn't solve your issue, then you probably have a virus.Take CareMr Putney
