I'm going to realize a lifelong dream to finally see The Moody Blues in concert this year. However, my Canon powershot A95 isn't going to get me decent concert photos and I am wondering what kind of point and shoot would work for both sneaking it in and still able to take decent photos. I'll be in the third row, but my Canon doesn't do all that well with it's 3x zoom. I've heard Fujis do well in low light and some Panasonics also. I've read so many reviews, I'm totally confused now. Any suggestions? A wide angle with at least a 5 speed zoom would be nice. Please help me decide.

Hi Shannara and welcome to the forum. First, I didn't know the Moody Blues were touring. Ought to be a good concert. Cameras can get a bit confusing. In my case, when I buy one, I hope for the best and expect the worst. I have an HP PhotoSmart Mz67v that seems to do pretty well in low light situations and not using the flash. It also has 6x zoom, but will go farther digitally. It also has Video and audio capabities. Those Power Shots are supposed to be pretty good cameras, and certainly have to be better than some of those Cell Phone camera things I've seen posted on youtube. As for your present camera, depending on the stage lighting, you may be able to get some good shots, although from past experience, I know they do tend to go into a low light thing at times during a concert, and have really high lighting at other times. As for the 3x zoom, you will have an image three times the actual size a full zoom, if I am not mistaken. My last Camera was not a digital. It was a Minolta X370 SLR. That was a bit more problematic when trying to sneak it in. I did sneak it in to an Engelbert Humperdink concert one time. The stage lighting was more than sufficient. coastie

Thanks coastie, I appreciate your input. I hadn't even thought about an HP camera. Hadn't even done any research on those.

I have always liked Canons. I have a canon sx110 IS and it is great and compact. Wonderful zoom and quality!

Hi Shannara, I don't even know if HP is still in the Camera business. I bought this one in late 2007 and it seems I read somewhere that they were going to drop the Camera line. My neighbor saw mine right after I got it, and I looked it up on Amazon. It was about $7 to $10 cheaper than what I paid. He went home and immediately ordered one. :D If the batteries are fresh and I have a new 2 Gb card in there, I could probably shoot a half hour or so of Video w/ sound. You are right though, in that there are plenty of cameras out there in all sorts of price ranges and it can be confusing. As I said, I have seen stuff from camera phones posted on youtube. Pretty low quality, but better than I would have expected, so I would imagine a dedicated Camera would do better. coastie
