I'M BAAAAAACK! If I am in wrong area rerout eplease! got some smarts from last nightmare but not enough to know where to ask for help on this one.

What would make jpegs suddenly be saved as aspx. files? My friends send me pics to my email. they have always saved as jpegs and now I noticed that yesterday they are now saved as aspx files. What have I done now? Can I revert back to pics being saved as jpegs or am I stuck with all my friends and kids looking like code?

Thank you in advance and coastie I told ya I would give the computer tech world a run for its money.

How do you access your email? Do you use a webmail interface in a browser (i.e. IE)? Or do you use an email client (such as Outlook or Outlook Express or Thunderbird)?

How do you save the files? In otherwords, describe (as detailed as you can) the process you use to download those files to your computer.

This will start the process of us trying to figure out what happened.

In the mean time, if they actually still JPEG image files, then changing the file extension to something other than JPG should not change that...you should be able to open them in a proper image program and they should appears as pictures. If you change the file extension back to JPG, then they should open up in your default image program fine with a double click. If not, then you are not saving the actual image file, but rather something else (some ActiveX file potentially).

I have discovered that it is the ones from my cell phones sent to my email.

I have firefox.

they never did this until just the other day.

Recently a computer tech came to house and did complete system restore. I do not know if this caused problem or not.

To save them I do as I always have. I right click on pic and click "save image as" yes it shows jpeg in box and I save into my documents, my pictures to whichever folder they go in.

Since restore there is a download box opens up that shows the downloads and that is where I noticed the aspx it shows a little piece of lined paper (i think thats what it is) instead fo a picture. I click on it and it is just code.

Does this happen to all attached images or only the one that you sent from you cell phone?

Does the same thing happen if you just go to some webpage with an image and then try the save as function with the image?

Just to confirm, the picture DOES show properly in email in the browser, correct? In otherwords, you have seen the actual picture so you know the attached file is actually a picture file, right?

Hey, When you get to the code part, have you tried to right click on that? If so, there should hve been an option for "Show Picture" to click on. Don't know if will work though, as it never has for me. coastie

Hey Cat !!

I didn't read the whole thread but , are you using Firefox or Internet Explorer ( 7or 8) ??

I'm using Firefox.

I went into my e-mail and chose a pic sent to me by my Sister of her dog. I saved the

pic to my Desktop. This is how I did it.

I Right Clicked on the pic and chose to "Save Image As" :

1!

Now , when I click on that entry , I get this box that opens to save the pic where I want to.

Posted Image

As you can see, the first box says File names : "GetAttachment.aspx.jpg". the box underneath that one

should say Save as type :"JPEG Image" . Now , to the right ,you will see a little Arrow pointing downward.

Click on the Arrow . The box that will appear should say "ALL Files" . Click on that one.

OK, the top box dictates where you will save the pic. Mine says "Control Panel".

To change that , you have to click on the little arrow to the left of Control Panel

and try choosing the Desktop as the destination.

You can either move it latter or

just delete it. Now , click on the "Save" button.

Try it this way to see if this will work. If it does then , you will have to choose

the ALL Files instead of the JPEG format.

This is my saved file on the Desktop :

I'm not all that familiar with FF, but it looks good from what little I do know. We can hope that solves the issue. Actually, I'm feeling pretty darned good right now and I have been on this thing a LOT longer than I intended. I will get some gaming in though and maybe catch up on some reading. Well, time for the meds, so guess I'll check out.

Hey Cat !!

Are you making fun of my Save Box !!

OK, I suppose you are using XP ,right ? Those Save boxes are from

Vista. That's my OS. I went back to my XP (haven't opened it since last April LOL !) and

upgraded my Firefox to 3.0.10. You are using Firefox 3 , Right ??

These are what you are probably used to.

I will post the same pics as in Vista but with XP's boxes. OH! my XP is

French so , I'll translate what the words mean back to English.

So, right click on the pic in Hotmail. BTW, this is a Web Mail service, right ??

If you are using Outlook Express, this might not apply.I don't use OE .

Again, right click on pic and choose"Save Image As". Now the box comes up:

!jpeg.bmp!

Is this the Save Box you are used to seeing ?? If so , then we are in business.

Now, at the top of this box, is the first dropdown menu where you will choose to Save

the pic. Simply click on the little arrow to the Right and choose "Desktop".Mine says "Bureau"

At the Bottom, there are two other boxes. The top one should have the "Get Attachment.aspx.jpeg" file name.

The second one , on the bottom, should have "JPEG Image" . So far ?

On the Right Hand Side of this last Box, there is a Arrow. Click on it. You should have a

DropDown menu with only one other entry. "ALL FILES" .

!jpeg2.bmp!

ALL FILES >> Click on that one. It will replace the JPEG Image.

Now , click on the Save Button. Mine says "Enregistrer" same thing.

The next screen you should see is the Download Pop-Up :

1!

You should now be able to see the Jpeg file on your Desktop.

Is there anything you don't understand ?? If so, let me know .

Okay frustration is seriosuly setting in.
I tried and it is still aspx all the way. It is only read as code.

firefox

only pics sent thru email. (not just cell phone anymore) The ones I download from sites are fine.

Questions...

Why did the pictures suddenly begin saving as aspx files? I have NEVER had this happen.

Can I change an actual setting to make it go back to jpg format?

Am I stuck with aspx files and need to inform everyone I can no longer recieve pics in my email?

Why is it when the save as box comes up and I click on it and it says "name of picture" and then "save as" jpeg then why is it saving as aspx?

I found nine picture sin my pictures folders that have mutated to aspx files and they were downloaded last year. How does this happen?

I know this is a lot to put on everyone. I am just ready to say hell with this computer and become a technical nun. picture Charlie Brown saying "ARRRRRRG" That is just how I feel.

Hey Cat !!

I don't know of a setting that you could change or bring back the jpeg. extension.

We might want to try a Restore to a Previous Time. If anything was changed somehow,

this might undo what has been done the .jpeg extension.

If you are willing, we will do a restore of your PC to a time when you didn't have this

problem. If you can recall when this all started to happen you just might be able to

go back before that time.

To do a System Restore :

Go to > Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System restore.

Click on the System Restore. The welcome page for System Restore might

take a little while to appear. It has to acquire the Restore Points and then load.

This is what it looks like in XP :

Posted Image

Make sure that , the first Radio Button is clicked. Now click on the Next button on the Bottom right.

The next screen to appear will be this one :

Posted Image

As you can see , there is a Calendar on the left with dates that are Bolded. If you click

on the date that would be Before this .aspx thing happened, you will be presented with

times and entries on the right hand side. Pick one by clicking on it.

Now click on the Next button, at the bottom center. There will be a final screen that comes up.

This is what you will see :

Posted Image

This screen will give details of the time and date that the restore will take place.

One word of caution !! ALL of the programs that you have downloaded and installed

AFTER the Date you have chosen to restore too, will no longer be there, as they were

Not installed yet on the Restore Date that you have chosen. So if possible, do not

restore your PC to a date too far from the event that you are trying to prevent by

restoring to a previous date.

Now , click on the Next button, Bottom Middle and the process will start.

Let it finish completely before attempting to do anything with the PC.

When it is Completely finished , a screen will appear and tell you whether

it succeded or not.

So, if you are willing , try this and see what happens. This procedure CAN

be reversed by choosing a Restore Point from Today and restoring again.

This started after the tech guy did a complete auto restore. I mean he took it back to where I had to re agree to everything that came with computer etc. That is why I am lost. So I have no point to go back to. because if I go back to beginning date when problem started that is the date trouble began.

Are you beginning to sense my frustration? I am sooooo losing it. I have appealed to other sites and no one else has a clue either. Firefox/Mozilla people have no clue, Microsoft peeps all say it cannot be that way (um its my computer and I think I can see what is happening), other sites all just say try this or that and then they give up.

I think my goal in life is to make everyone crazy. This will surely label my life mission accomplished!

Good morning, There is something you can try and mind you this is coming from out in left field. If you have a photo editor app. you try to open the file in there and then save it as a JPEG file. Also, it might work opening it in Paint as well ( if you can) and then saving it as a JPEG file. coastie
