Memory sticks come with or without without LED indicator.

I've heard thet those without LED indicator are in general use less energy and are more reliable. Is it so?

And second question - what role plays the LED - is it just an idicator or is a vital part of the operation of the stick memory-for example what will happen if LED is faulty or is removed from the memory stick.

Thanks for any competent answer and/or link to related info!

I don't know if you mean USB thumb drives or desktop RAM sticks. If you're talking about RAM, the only memory sticks that I know of with LEDs are Crucial Ballistix Tracers and some Corsair XMS series sticks. In these cases, the LEDs are just for looks. They flash in sequence while you're accessing the memory. It's not a diagnostic feature. The sticks with lights probably do use more energy than budget sticks, because high-end memory generally needs 20-30mV more than slower, higher latency memory. As far as reliability, it really depends of the user. These are the highest of high-end desktop memory modules that you can buy. They are designed to be overclocked and pushed to the limit, and if that isn't done properly, they can fail.

Here's a random Ballistix Tracer kit:

Most of Memory sticks don't come with Led but your pc or laptop has a led right next to the sd/mem-stick slot ...its there to let you know a folder or pfogram is in the processed of tranfering .....and "SHOULD NOT BE PULLED OUT WHILE IT WORKING" or "FLASHING" .....

On the other hand .... Most USB thumbdrives "Flash" come with a Led .....Same function with Mem-sticks or sd cards ...

And NO ...It won't save you any energy .....with or without led .....they all need power to run ....IMO.

Many USB drives have LED lights that let you know when data is being transferred between the device and your PC. This is to help users know when it?s OK to remove the USB device, although you?re best using the ?safely remove hardware? function.

Cheers,
