Hi,this whisky again my rant for today is dubbing from vcr tape to dvd,i have a magnavox recorder that supposedly will
dub from one to another or visa/versa,but what i found out when talked to funai tech. that they have copy write protection
on blank vcr tapes. I have a tool that will allow me to transfera tape from vcr to pc,then suposedly i can make a dvd from
vcr to dvd,but it's a little annoying to say the least that companies out there are so desparate to control this media that
they stoop this low.
Is there recorder that will allow you to dub without going into pc to make copys of vcr tapes as the tech. from said funai they get
a lot of calls about this very problem as it would be frustrating to the average person, any fool knows the people that pirate the
movies will not mind spending a boat of money on equipment to make copys of movies,i still have not gotten how to tfansfer
from pc to dvd as maybe igetting a little dumb in my old age but using ms. is not just plug&play as it should firefox may have a
eisier set up to make dvd's,thank's

Whiskey: Yes, there are a number of manufacturers that make VHS to DVD dubbing machines, quite a few off brands too. I have one and use it to make exact copies of VHS-C tapes from a camcorder. I've never run up against any copyright protection, even from prerecorded tapes, like from Disney or Paramount. I do use a PC to input video to a capture card for transposing 8MM and slides for burning to DVDs but that's another story. They are pretty simple units and have easy to follow instructions.

Whisky here i have magnavox ZV450MW8A combo. that i sent back funai twice the onethat was sent back is not the sameone that i sent them
and i was trying copy from vcr tape the show "24".
Is it just my imagination or trying to copy something to dvd using winxp. diffucult by nature of the beast, because you would think that all you would
have to do is basicly plug&play, but for some unknown reason i have not been able to do it yet.
What type of recorders are you using that have given you least trouble and the easiest to use, because the one i have requires me download into
the pc then insert a disk to copy to from the pc which in itself is not that much a hassle, but then like i say for some unknown reason i cannot
get them out of the pc i am going back into pc to see what i maybe doing wrong, thank's

Hey Whisky, I have a Magnavox MWR20V6 combo DVD recorder / VCR and it works just fine for that. If have something on tape, I can transfer it to DVD with no problem. I just make sure I am set to Dub from the tape to the DVD. coastie
It will likely depend on the VHS tape. If it is a non-commercial tape (i.e. something you recorded, then it should work fine. If it is a commercial tape, then it will depend on if the tape "manufacturer"/movie studio included any copy protection schemes (and yes, there were/are copy protection on some commecial VHS tapes). I believe the VHS/DVD recorder combo has "stuff" in them to "honor" copy protection...likely as an overture to Hollywood so that the unit manufacturers would not get sued. The copy protection could even be problematic for copying a VHS tape from one VCR to another (i.e. tape to tape) depending on the copy protection.

Hey smax, You are right, if it is a Commercial tape that has been copy protected with say Macrovision, it can not be dubbed. I have a way around that, which will be left unsaid here, for obvious reasons.:D
Yep...Macrovision is one of the "big ones" when it comes to copy protection for VHS tapes.

Whisky here, the error code that comes up is e-45,the latest tapes i used come from wal-mart wether that makes a difference remains to be
seen, right now i have 4 downloaded tapes in my pc but for life of me i can not find where they are,i was rooting around in pc to find them but
they have all but disappeared you would think i could go into the video section and pull them up every once in while i get the little balloon

I have NERO to make disc's and things, but i understand there better programs to do same with but less hassle, thank's.
The machine i have tells me to go from vcr to dvd right now it starts to record then almost immeditaly it brings up the erroe code e-45,thank's
