Microsoft Tries to Force You to Use Bing

As to Microsoft forcing things, I seem to have noticed (on three different CPUs) that under Windows Vista, Microsoft's updater presents both Explorer 8 and Windows Live Essentials as Windows components, and that if you do not install the offered Explorer 8, Vista Service Pack 2 is never offered in the updater (although it is downloadable from Microsoft's support website).

Obviously Brennon Slattery is just another journalist who enjoys bashing the king!
If I purchase a new car and the factory radio is of very high quality, does Pioneer, Sony, Kenwood have a monopoly law suite against the car manufacturer? No, they don't, Mozilla, Opera and other browser manufactures are simply jealous that MS is the king of the software industry and they are only wanting a piece of that pie!
MS rules and the others drool, plus who the he11 wants software created by hackers in their basement, like Firefox!
IE8 kicks a$$!

I love Google. I tried Bing and was enchanted. It is fast. Accurate. And returned relevant hits to my questions, yet different ones than Google.
I don't see where Microsoft tries to coerce people onto anything. Cry babies!
At work I still run IE7 due to our certification matrix, onto test platforms. Yes I see there is an update to IE8. So? I simply ignore it, and voila. No problems.
On my computer I use and love IE8. So? Works like a charm!
Where is all this bickering coming from?

Microsoft IE should be pushed as the default browser on a new PC! A. Its their product. B. It's only the technocrates that bitch about it. Never heard a family of four open the dell box, fire it up and instantly whimper about "IE being the default browser." On the off chance that DOES happen, they're probably able to easily secure the multitude of alternatives. So what if MS wants to push Bing. Frankly it returns better results than the spam ridden Google. Here bitch about this: Yahoo IM update. Nowhere does it mention/option to deny, update will install browser toolbar, changes the defualt homepage to yahoo.com and install some update monitoring service. Cheers.

I also checked Bing out. I'll withhold my judgment but it appears to be eye candy only. One of the things I did was type a refrigerator model #. On Google, I got the refrigerator. On Bing, I got a porn site. Given Microsoft's past history, such as with Netscape, Lotus, Works and many others, I find their explanation not credible. I would be very critical of their 100m? advisement on their 'revised' search Engine. I'll stick to Google and Firefox.

Oh come on dude. Microsoft the king of software? are you serious?!?!? It must be coincidence that their Windows Vista and Windows 7 software looks almost identical to Apple OS X. Part of the reason their not getting into the Netbook business is because there's no existing platform out their for them to copy off of. Until Apple came along Microsoft was a Tyrant with it's software but certainly no King; Microsoft will always be third best to Google and Yahoo in the search engine world and will always play second fiddle to Apple in the OS world.
Sorry, but try again.

You do have a choice hotmeal
Power on the computer
Open IE
Type in mozilla.com to the address bar
Download
Install
Defualt everything
Whats the problem. You'd have to use the same logic @ McDonalds. Yea I'd like a McD's patty and Wendy's bun......(McD is bigger than MS)

I would expect Microsoft to continue to do what they do till someone stops them. So far, they got rid of Netscrape, Lotus, and done significant damage to YaHoo. They have tried to damage Google or anyone else who stand in their way. Their reputation as being 'Evil' is well deserved. I have seem them do harm to their competitors by utilizing under handed methods.

It's not about being in the "in" crowd. I'm an SEO analyst so I spend the greater part of my day on search engines and on my laptop. Nobody uses Microsoft for a reason-- its crap!! Google and Yahoo combined have about 92% of the market share for a reason. As for the Operating System -- when it comes to economics the OS for Mac is roughly $149 across the board whereas for Microsoft your paying $500 to get ALL the features (at least) and your paying all that money for an unstable platform that is sub-par.

Since when did McDonalds or Burger King makes deals with computer makers and suppliers to ‘encouraged’ them to install certain programs or delay delivery of computers to their competitors so they can have a ‘good deal’ with their operating system. If you have a monopoly and restrict your choices I would call that an unfair advantage. It stifles innovation among other evils.

huh?
lol i think its more popular and yes "IN" to FORCE (used in the same laughable manner as the subject line) this 'the man is getting me down' idea that Microsoft is some naughty bully. If they wanted to force anything hotmeal the computers individuals purchase with the MS OS installed would post an error message such as this when you attempt to excercise your choice (which supposedly no one has)
"YOUR ATTEMPT TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL FIREFOX HAS BEEN DENIED microsoft error DX12093883rf23893"
but it doesn't. Because you have choice and an arguement to the contrary is foolish at best.
