"Folks, we can't afford to be using commas. We're in a recession. Commasare extravagant and unneeded. Sure, I'd love to use commas in myTwitter profile, but I just can't afford to do so--certainly not on thesalary I currently make. You don't need to be an economist tounderstand the price of a comma. Commas are expensive. They cost almostas much as a dash."
What? Did you grow up in the ghetto? Commas may be extravagant, but they are free to use, there's no doubt. If it can be typed in on the keyboard, it can almost certainly be free and open source. If it's not copyrighted or food or oil, it's not expensive. Punctuation marks? Expensive? They're images on a piece of paper!
