You looking for hardware based RAID options or software based RAID options?

Do you want to use internal hard drives to create a RAID array?

Or do you want to use an external hard drive RAID option/device? Or maybe a Network Attached Storage (NAS) RAID device?

Do you want RAID 0, RAID 1, etc?

You need to be a little more specific.

I have a RIAD 0 config for my asus a8v deluxe mobo.

Being this is older technology, perhaps more current steps are different.

Its my understanding that there is a way to do it in windows but I don't know that method.

From a fresh xp install my steps were something like this.

(I'm at work so I'm trying to remember)

First I needed to download the raid driver from asus and put on floppy.

Install to identical, clean HDDs.

boot pc with OS disc in tray. Early in install it will ask for any third party software press F6, then push floppy all the way in.

It will pull files but keep in till further during install it tells you to remove it.

You will be prompted later to press a key to set up an array.

Choose which you want.

0=performance

1=right to both disc. If 1 disc fails later in life, you'll have the other HDD to keep you up and running.

Nothing gets lost. This is good for work stuff or whatever you have that you can't afford to loose.

On screen instructions will lead you through the steps.

You do want to choose, "initailize" when asked.

Thats the best I can do now.

Are you familiar with any of this?

Not sure how this will apply to you.
Your system setup may be slightly different??

IDE HDDs need to be set both to master.

SATA HDDs just connect the cables.

Enter bios and make sure raid is enabled. Mine is the promise onboard controller.

Exit/save.

If 1st boot it will say, no array detected, press ctrl +F to enter fast build set up.

My notes say press 1 for auto set up but I think I chose option 3 to define it myself.

Eigther way you can go back and do it different if need to. Even once you create it you can delete and do it again.

Option 3, define an array/choose what RAID you want, mine is performance, RAID 0

Ctrl+Y to save then choose create and initialize, press Y to confirm.

I ignored FDISK utility. Let windows formatte and create partition.

Place OS disc in ROM and reboot.During boot it will quickly ask about 3rd party software, press F6 and push floppy fully in slot.

Depending on what you see, my notes are just the choices asked from windows install.

I chose "S", & NFTS

Basic on screen instructions from there.

If you are asking from an already installed OS I just wasted my time;)

I can't answer that one.
