I can understand some people being reluctant to a WBS unit, as a few have body piercings in some very private areas. But i do think that it might be far easier than having to consent to a strip search to reveal the nature of why a metal detector is going off. I do think that the answer is very simple, remove any body piercings prior to going to the airport and skip the embarassment.

First, all-plastic guns exist only in the movies, not in reality.

Second, there is the tampon paradox. If the MMW can't see a tampon, then it is ineffective in seeing hidden objects; however, if a tampon can be seen, then the MMW is too intrusive.

Third, the MMW is unnecessary for proper screening. The walk-through metal detector is sufficient to detect metal objects. Proper explosive trace detection machines take care of explosives. The TSA has those for carry-on luggage and was using the puffers for passengers. However, the TSA screwed up the puffers and now they are being mothballed. The TSA should devote its resources towards that instead of seeing through our clothing.

Fourth, do you realize that most cargo that is placed in the belly of the plane you are flying on has not been properly screend? Your checked baggage has, but that is only a small part of what is carried. US Mail and other shipments are not screened by the TSA. Does that make you feel safe?
