Basically, you would need to purchase and install a new graphics card if you want an actual HDMI port. If you want people to help you find one, then you will need to provide some information on the specifications and/or brand and model of your computer.
Your other option is if you current graphics card/system has a DVI output, then you can use a DVI to HDMI cable.
And depending on your HDTV, you might have other options. What inputs does your HDTV have? VGA in addition to HDMI (many HDTVs do)?

It's a desktop I built with a Nvidia 8800GT graphics card. I believe my HDTV only has hdmi.

Your nVidia 8800GT card should have two DVI ports on it. Thus, you should be able to do an DVI to HDMI cable such as this:

Or a regular DVI cable with a DVI to HDMI adapter like this:

Those are examples, not necessarily specific ones you should go with.
