No, you dumb boner you can't do that because the pre perfected itself from the iphones mistakes and just like that other guy should you compare present generation to present generation. It's like comparing a car that's been in an industrie for 50 years and another car company is created and makes a car trying to compete with the 50 year old car company and you say " Hey we should compare their 50 year old modle with our brand new 2009 model"

No your high...

Regarding the apps for the iphone,

The iphone has a lot of apps, but only maximum 7 have any real use to the users besides games. Also the apps are not a revolutionary or amazing feature, they just take

websites and make them look nice. That is not something that will make a better smartphone in the long run, and palm wisely recognized this and imporved other features first that make the pre better the iphone.

So while palm is currently playing catchup to apple in the way of apps, it will soon overtake them and claim victory because of equality in apps and superiority in all other features.

Also NOBODY CARES what doctors use because the computer is still dominant over smartphones, so apple gets beaten in the medical demographic as well.

AT&T.com says single smart-phone (iPhone) plan is $69 (450 mins+data).
Sprint.com says single smart-phone (Pre) is $69 (450 mins+data).
T-Mobile.com says single smart-phone (Blackberrry) plan is $49$40=$89 (600 minsdata).
VerizonWireless.com says single smart-phone plan $79 (450 mins+data).
So what's up with price issues? I don't see AT&T any cost-different than the others. You get MORE functionality with an iPhone on AT&T than with Pre or Blackberry. For $99 you get a cool iPhone, no rebate crap. For $199/299 you get more memory, faster, video, features. Bark at AT&T coverage all you want but the others have their own issues. iPhone is VERY price-competitive. If you don't like it, don't get it. But you can't complain on price and features overall. Maybe Pre will catch up but by then Apple will have iPhone on every carrier (next year) and the carrier issue will no longer be a problem--everyone will simply get an iPhone and Pre and Blackberry will go away. Innovation leads the pack not a "me-too" attitude. (Owner of first cell phone--finally--which is an iPhone 3GS.) Thanks!

Oh, the doctor thing got me going too. The iPhone OS 3.0 has hardware APIs. Just wait. You'll see an iPhone connected to a barcode scanner, a retinal scanner, a product inventory doo-dad...piles and piles of HW are going to be using the iPhone interface. Scan a product via HW adapter, iPhone clicks, and updates your local database via WiFi or whatever. POOF! The guy in Alabama gets his inventory updated pronto from California 'cause the guy used a HW device attached to the iPhone to check his water supply (whatever). Heck, the water meter and gas meter dudes should be using iPhones with HW adapters. Walk around to each house, and blip, blip, and POOF results are sent back to corporate automatically (I don't know how they do it today, granted).

Anyway, the HW API interface will finally be the start of Star Trek-like devices with the iPhone as the brains. Medical certainly will boom here but other inventory and "counting" or control-like businesses. Oh, and restaurants? Your at the table, just type in the code (or text) of the meals and POOF the chef gets the info. Saves running around.

Anyway...the iPhone is just going to grow and grow. It's a "computer OS" not a "web OS" and has potential for much, much more functionality. Multitasking is a feature, not a necessity. I can't see using a very small hand-held device like the iPhone and do a zillion things at once, anyways. I do think Apple has it right and they are very concerned about battery issues--which is their primary point against it. Thanks!

i have the palm pre and i have the ipod touch and my boyfriend has the iphone. at&t's plans cant even touch sprints especially now that they including FREE UNLIMITED CALLING TO ANY MOBILE DEVICE WITH ANY CARRIER when you have the simply everything plan. my touch has shitty battery life as does the iphone. who buys a phone for the apps? come on now. you buy a phone to talk/text i wouldnt pay the ridculous price for the plans through att to get an iphone because they have sooo many cool apps. hello get a phone that actually doesnt die after you use it a bit and buy an ipod touch if you wanna play with all the apps. the end. PALM PRE ROCKS IPHONE BLOWS.

If you buy a phone for talking and MMS/SMS then why would you buy a Palm Pre? Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy any number of other phones that have full QWERTY keyboards and come free or very inexpensive with the Simply Everything plan? Or is it that the cellular phone goes beyond just text and talk, and in fact becomes a multi-functional, customizable tool for everything you need while you're on the go? I have a feeling you just bought the Palm Pre because it was the newest, shiniest thing out there and you like the way you feel when you pull it out from your purse.

I see this is your first post on PCWorld, and I would like to say a few things. First of all, please leave the foul language out of your posts, it's inappropriate and it reflects poorly on you. Secondly, it's not hard to use proper grammar and capitalization and it's something simple that helps others take you seriously. And last of all, keep away from caps lock. That's such a cliche these days.
