Can't open downloads

I can't open files that I download. Example: I tried to download a compressed file containing an XP skin. It downloaded in Firefox successfully and I extracted it. Now I can't open it. I click on the folder, and my desktop, except for the background, vanishes for a few seconds. When it reappears, nothing has happened.What's going on?

Hello Hazmat,Alot of XP skins require certain programs to run, like StyleXP.Programs like this usually cost money, so you can run this XP patch.I have the patch installed, and it works like a charm.
