My CPU is Intel Pentium Dual Core E2180 2 GHz.
Environment Temperature is around 35-40C
My CPU temperature according to Speedfan is on average 55C when running XP, and goes up to 65C when a game is run.
Using cooling fan supplied with the CPU

Is the temperature safe?

If not, what to do?

Hey sharful !!

Welcome to PCWorld Community !

If these temps are at idle (PC not working ) then, I think they are about 5 to 7 degrees to high.

To make sure these are accurate , download this little app Core Temp .(click on the blue words).

Or click on this link for direct download. : {font:Arial Black, sans-serif}Download: 32 Bit
{font}

This one seems to be more accurate. It's an .exe , does not need to be installed. Just unpack the Zip file

and double click on the .exe. It should minimize to the Notification area (Clock). Report the temp in your next post.

I don't think the 65C is hot under load. if it were 75C or more then, you might want to think about

adding fans to extract the hot air from inside the PC case. Have you cleaned out the Dust Bunnies ?

This is what mine is reporting as I type your reply :

Hey sharful !!

If you do a bit of cleaning up inside the case, ie. dust off the inside, make sure the

air intake and vents are not clogged up with dust or lint, look at the CPU fan or fins

are all clean , also , rearrange the wiring as to aid the air flow, the working 65*C

is nothing to worry about. Core Temp reports that you also have a Tj Max of 85*C

which means that, you still have plenty of head room before a total shut down due

to heat. Just keep an eye on Core Temp to make sure it doesn't get too hot.

Do you have any programs running in the background that require allot of system

resources ? You could shut down some of them to help the CPUs cope better.

What kind of security app. do you have and are they heavy resource hogs. All of

these could and would contribute to heating up the CPUs.

The general rule of thumb is at least 20C less than the Tj. Max, so in your case 65C is safe, but on the high side. Intel's specs list about 73C as the max for an M0 stepping E2180. However, 65C under load is very high for an E2180 at stock speeds and voltage. You may want to look into getting an aftermarket CPU cooler, adding more fans, and/or organizing the cables inside the case to get more air flowing. As a reference, I had an E2140 (same processor, but with an 8x multiplier instead of a 10x) running at 3GHz with 1.38v and it idled at 29C and never went over 61C with both cores at 100% on the stock cooler. With a Thermaltake V1, idle dropped to 24C and load to 56C max.
Second thought: I took another look at your original post and noticed your environment temp was 35-40C. Are you saying it's in a room that is 95-105F? You will definitely have higher temperatures if that's the case, so the 65C isn't suprising, but still fairly high. The temps I posted above for my E2140 were in ambient temp of about 68-70F or about 21C. If you're normally running the computer in high temps, I would definitely suggest getting an aftermarket CPU cooler. Air coolers can't get temps below ambient, but good ones can keep the processor closer to ambient and if you want it to last, you need to keep it cool.
