Well named computer - Dinosaur. This ought to slow but not stop naysayers who claim it takes too much in the way of resources.

And I thought my computer was a dinosaur. Wow. It's hard to believe how far we have progressed.

Don't worry, the release version will slow a Core i7 Extreme with 12gb to a crawl.

Finally! The truth always come out!

This should put the pundits anti-Microsoft bashers to bed.

All those who claim Windows 7 is just Vista warmed up, legacy crap code, and all.

Frankly, all those Apple Mac fanatics with their bigoted views, full of lies and malice, spreading constant FUD + BS, and even some Linux fanatics, EAT YOUR HEART OUT!

Well they do have a proven business model to maintain.

I am actually waiting for about 6 months after release when they announce "ha ha suckers, it is actually the Mojave experiment part deux!".

Once again, why even go there? You are going to get burned unless you remove or edit your posts. This topic is pretty cool. Don't ruin it.

Why spread FUD+BS? Anybody notice the obvious pattern that the most disingenious 'info' comes from low-count wonder posters? ?:| ]:)

I rarely post to this site, but do read quite often. I have also been involved with computers since 1980, and as such, have used every version of Microsoft OS since MS BASIC that came on my Commodore 64. This includes every version of Windows from 1.0 to Windows XP. I have seen nothing from Microsoft since then that was worth an upgrade. And, in all those years, the only folks I've met who gush over things Microsoft, are those who make money directly or indirectly from it. People such as Microsoft employees, MCSE's, tech writers, etc...

The fact that Win 7 runs on obsolete hardware proves nothing of how it will run on modern hardware. For all we know the author had some specially engineered hack made to prove a pointless point.

Besides, if it were not for dissenters like me, the Microsoft sales force would still be pushing Vista instead of the supposedly improved Windows 7.

I was impressed by the fact that it runs virtualized within Ubuntu on my roughly six year old PC, but this out does that. Here's a screenshot of my computer.

Posted Image

While it says it has 64 MB of video RAM, where that is coming from, I don't know as I am not using the propreity drivers in Ubuntu, so I am unsure if it is from the discrete card or the 1 GB of RAM installed.

So you know, it does run fine with AVG 8.5 free in the back ground and one other program (multitasking does not happen) with the majority of the Aero interface turned on (I only turned off what I would speed up the system but not change the look ). I don't know the boot time for sure, but can say with confidence it is less than five minutes.

Based on my experience with Windows 7 being virtualized, I look forward to seeing it on a new computer with modern parts that it is more likely meant to run on.

Since Win 7 is not yet a released product, any talk of what it can or cannot do is purely speculative, or in other words, FUD or BS. Forgive me for being skeptical, but given Microsoft's history, it is only prudent to be so.

If you have not already done so, you should try the full version of Virtual Box available directly from their web site. It is free as well, and runs a bit better than the OSE version available in the Ubuntu repositories.

The video ram being reported comes from the ram allocated to the machine. The machine is also supplying a "virtual" Windows compatible video card.

Windows 7 capable lawsuit in the making.

Thousands of class action victims were ripped off installing Windows 7 on their 90's computer expecting it to have features comparable to what's advertised on current systems. One client says..."I broke my LCD trying to press really had to expand my pictures. It didn't say I needed a new computer on the box. Microsoft Corporation owes me a new Compaq Laptop!"

Uhh...the Beta and Release Candidate (and all builds between) are astounding, especially considering the fact they aren't even finished. I think that speaks for itself, which would make any talk of what it can and cannot do a reality, not speculation. Microsoft has limited history concerning betas so there is no precedent to base that claim off of their (Vista, yes, was beta, but very few people did it).

Come on guys, it does not matter what kind of hardware will actually load the OS, it is what hardware will run it well.
If it was not for Linux, and the return of Apple, Windows 7 would be a bigger pig than Vista. Having said that, where does this guy find the time for such an experiment??? LOL
Actually, this is good news because M$ wants to finally put a nail in the XP coffin so it can run 7 on netbooks. unfortunately they also just announced XP will be available until April 2011, m$ sending mixed signals again.....

....Like 5.1 on an 8-Track player? A friend of mine installed his Quadraphonic 8-Track player/Reciever in his Valiant in 1974. He had to use and inverter for the 120V AC it needed. He lost a bit of knee room in the front passenger seat as it had to be installed under the dashboard. Steve you reading this?

I'm glad you are happy with windows XP and all it's built in headaches. People with negative attitudes towards products usually create their own negative environments to launch their diatribes from.
I to have been using products from Microsoft since the stone ages, add in Apple and a number of great but long gone companies. No one will argue (I hope not anyway) that Vista is for the most part garbage. Windows 7 on the other hand is the best offering ever from Microsoft. I was very pleased to note that every one of my peripheral devices worked right away. No searching for drivers or their disk. Next is the speed and the last laugh will be ours when your assessment is proven wrong that the final release will resemble molasses.
My personal benchmark is the Adobe CS4 creative suite. Every component runs faster than what I experienced with Vista. Oh, and it’s the same machine, same configuration as to hardware and software. And yes, I measured the results after a fresh install with both OS’s
I do salute your tenacity in refusing to experience anything beyond Windows XP.

Yeah, WT, I'm eating my heart out -- you can run Windows 7 on a REALLY old machine, with a boot time of 17 minutes -- that's about two minutes faster than Vista on a new machine, no?
