Exactly my point, i paid the highest cost for an OS that was worse than "ME" and i want all the extra's.
Only to be ignored by MS, and then when an OS comes out that actually works the way It is supposed to, MS says oh well we dont care about you or the price you paid for the "Supposed most inclusive" OS.
I love Win7 x64, but i wont be buying it, until MS pulls the head out!

This is truly a slap in the face for Vista Ultimate users. Why not have a discounted upgrade for them? I also think MS should offer a discount price for the Vista upgrade until at least Oct 22. June 26 to July 11 is not very much time, and a limited supply?

? you know what you are getting for vista ultimate...it's in the version differences.
there is no rip off.
you buy it..used it..does not entitle you to another new version.
Just like a toster from walmart.
yours sucks does not mean walmart will give you a new one for free.

I bought an iPhone 3GS. Too bad for Microsoft.
It looks like after their Vista flop I will be turning to Apple all the way.

I agree with the buying of software. Don't really get the toaster one because I have returned things I have used that don't work.

Anyway, as much as Microsoft plugged Vista they should offer an even steeper discount, customer loyalty, to those that were screwed by Vista.

As for my version of Vista, don't like it and in some ways it sucks but it works for me.

Nice way to make yourself look like a fool when you talk about others.

You call others names but what is toster.
Have spell check or just can't spell?

I won't insult you like the "toster" guy. It's not benevolence, it's fear that I'll misspell a word as well B-) However, I will point out that Microsoft has obviously targeted their deep Windows 7 discounts to customers in "at risk" demographics - customers who they think may elect not to upgrade. That means that they think that Vista Ultimate users have imbibed so deeply of the MS Kool-Aid that they have no chance of beating their addiction. Microsoft has never given a tinker's damn about customer loyalty, because they have always had what they believe to be the next great customer swindle in hand. You have a choice between perpetrating this kind of abuse at their hands, or proving them wrong by "voting with your feet". Not only will you be better of for that assertiveness, but in the long term, so will Microsoft.

About 3 years ago, I would have been very interested in the new Windows... but then I found out there's actually a much better alternative than playing these upgrade games. The alternative is called GNU/Linux.
GNU/Linux is a FREE(with FREE upgrades) operating system that is comparable and in some areas even more advanced than Windows. GNU/Linux is the ultimate example of computer science that is maintained by professionals all around the world and made free to all humans.

Stop getting screwed! Switch to FREEDOM! Switch to GNU/Linux.

I think they missed the boat if they are trying to hold on to the "at-risk" demographic... in grand MS style.
Pro users are going to get it through work and expense it. Ultimate users are the ones they should have offered the deal to. And they should have offered a special special deal to those that already own ultimate... because they did basically fail on the extras deal due to all resources going to getting the original program to work.

Perhaps you could provide a list of the software you are talking about... True, GNU/Linux will not run itunes, and other proprietary software that is infused with DRM... but there are Free software alternatives for almost all software titles... So long as you're willing to try something different, you can't go wrong.
Also, with WINE, it is possible to run some Windows applications in Linux. There are currently over 12,000 apps that have been tested and listed in WINE (this list includes the non-working applications as well). See the WINE appdb here: appdb.winehq.org

I think Vista has been doomed from the word go. Although I am not surprised at the actions of Microsoft. I have recently switched to Mac, and am pleasantly pleased. In fact, they are offering upgrades to their new OS to the tune of about $30. Something Microsoft will never touch...

The process of seeing Microsoft self-destruct is much like watching a patient on long term care. You'd like to see a change for the best but know it is a hopeless situation. The end of my current PC's useful life will mark the end of my decades long relatoship with the PC. I am going to Apple, determined to vote with my feet . I have felt grievously offended by the insults MS has dealt its customers, its jack-boot mentality toward the market, its bloated DRM, "trusted platform," Vista etc and already I was two-thirds of the way to being turned to Apple when I bought Vista Ultimate. How I got there is a long story and not worth recounting here. This latest insult, that I as a premium user will have to pay premium prices to put the patches on Microsoft's blundering ineptitude on Vista, means I am now all but certain to be headed away from the PC toward the Mac. One cannot do other than to conclude that Gyro Gearloose is running MS. The company needs to get some fresh young business school grads who know something about marketing and customer relations and to start repairing the damage to aggrieved and soon to be former customers. I inwardly smile when I read about the advance of Linux, that Acer plans to put out a small PC using a Google OS, the increased market share of the Mac. In the meantime, Mr Balmer, if you can stop leaping about like a hyperventilated three year old, please bend over. I have some software I'd like to return.

I moved our fourteen corporate computers to Ubuntu 9.04 a month ago, and haven't looked back since. The OS is stable, and all the necessary software, either OTS or custom meets all of our day to day needs. The retraining was minimal, as most of our staff were Linux-literate in the first place. Open Office meets our requirements for an Office suite, Evolution for an Outlook clone, and so on. It feels like a giant millstone has been removed from our collective necks. No more MS Windows, and no more costly licensing fees.

Got vista ultimate (note lower case, thats what it was worth) wasted my money, but really like Windows 7 Ultimate Beta and RC. But wait till these bozo's get their Windows 7 Home or Pro editions. They don't have but a few of the features of Ultimate and MS isn't going to let them have those features for nothing, bring $$$$. I really would like to send my copy of vista ultimate back to MS so somebody there could use it for what it really is, BUTT WIPE. Now if they don't want to reduce the price for those of us who got ripped with vista ultimate, so be it, but don't expect me to buy the other products that you sell, PIRACY WILL PUT A DAMPER ON A LOT OF YOUR BUSINESS because you are smart in the software business, but STUPID IN TAKING CARE OF THE PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT YOUR COMPANIES AND YOUR FAMILIES.

Can people whine any more about this? So you dropped a lot of money for an operating system that wasn't what you really thought it would be. I built a computer just as Vista came out, and then just upgraded of lot of the hardware recently. I didn't install Vista, I wasn't about to jump onto a new operating system after what I saw with ME.
Here's a rule of thumb: Every other windows operating system blows. 3.1? Good! 95, disappointing. 98, pretty good. ME, lousy. XP, great! Vista, poor. Windows 7, the best yet.
Maybe when Windows 8 comes out people won't immediately buy the most expensive version of it then cry when they realized they over paid.
