I don't know how various graphics compare on computers so can someone tell me if my computer will work with this version of Call of Duty?
I have one of the macbooks that came out last November (2.0 ghz, 4 gb of ram, 9400M NVidea graphics - don't know about any graphics memory). Here is what the website said:

Just got the game and played with it for a few minutes - just the "training" area. Seems to be working fine. Thanks.
This is one of the type of games (single player version) I wanted - though something closer to Doom's concept would be better. I think it had more replay value. No specific goals, outside of getting to the next exit. I would play that game many ways - minimize use of higher level weapons (trying to almost always limit myself to a chainsaw is tough! This game (i've played it on a PC) isn't going to have as much flexibility, but other than that, it is what I want.

The reality is that there are just not a lot of "mindless" shooter games any more. The shooter games have gone more to a "storyline" based game (i.e. not completely mindless shooting...more "mostly mindless" shooting :D ). The closest to what you want would likely be the Unreal Tournament series, but it is more geared toward online play than single player mode.

Yeah, I've noticed that trend to multi-player emphasis and it really bugs me. I just don't care about those. I'm just using these games as time killers once I get through them once - sort of like a solitaire game I play, but more interesting.
The story lines bug me too - with all the movie-like scenes. I just want to play the darn game! I also don't like it when you have to use a lot of keys to play the game. Call of Duty uses a good number, but is okay - wouldn't want to use more! Even so, I try to play the game so I don't have to use some of them much. Sort of like in Doom, I never used "strafe". I could get by without it and so it was one less thing to deal with.
Only thing that bothered me about doom was the final level scene for the whole game. It always seemed impossible to beat without using a cheat to make you invincible. Maybe there was something I missed, but that was my experience with all the doom games. I could do all the levels and "bosses" except for that final one.
Also could never figure out the info they gave at the end of all the other levels which included your time and an average time (or something like that). The average time was so short, I don't see how anyone could have come close to it.
I'll mess with the game later today. I do want to see if there is a way to play it in a window rather than taking up the whole screen so I can switch in and out of it like any other application.

Have you ever tried any of these in multiplayer mode?
Personally, I tend to get bored with FPS games rather quickly when played in single player mode. I find them MUCH more fun in multiplayer mode. My buddy and I would play Battlefield 1942 in multiplayer mode and have fun trying to frag each other. I also got into playing Unreal Tournament 2004 in multiplayer mode.

FWIW, you can get a new Doom game for an iPhone or iPod Touch:

I probably wouldn't mind playing multi-player games with friends, but I don't want to get tied up playing with a bunch of other people. I tend to want to go my own way and also play for brief periods. In fact, if I can, I'd be playing, pause while doing something else, back to the game, etc.
I did find a way to get it to just be in a window rather than full screen, but after I did that, I couldn't get things to work properly. I couldn't even manage to get things working enough to change it back! Not really sure what I finally did to be able to get it back, but I'm a little worried about trying it again and maybe being permanently stuck with a non-working program (though I guess I could reinstall it in a pinch).
I had already downloaded the new doom game for the iphone. Only messed with it a little, but it looks pretty cool. Seems that you can't just go your own way though. It seems to move and turn you on its own and your job is to just do the shooting. Still, it seems to be a nice game.

Yeah, I played the first one on my PC - didn't handle the graphics well - and so far this one is the same. I think it might have some additional stuff. Regardless, it works and is fine. I'd prefer something like doom where you aren't with a squad of computer people, but it's overall what I wanted.
Also got the doom iphone game. It is on rails - you can't move where you want - but it may be for the best on the iphone since I don't like a lot of complication. I messed some with Wolfenstein on the iphone and controlling everything was kind of a pain, though I didn't mess with it for long.
I've gone through the doom game at the easiest lever and am working on the 2nd hardest (out of four). Fun game.
