Hello,
Some time last week I got an update called Update to .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 for the .NET Framework Assistant 1.0 x86 (KB963707.) It's still sitting there, waiting for me to install it.

A few months ago I received a similar update so I checked in the Installed Updates list and I found it, but the KB number is different. I checked back over a year ago and couldn't find anything with the same KB number as above.

* So what I wanted to know is:

* Is it an update for the new Windows 7?

* Or, is it an update for Vista Home Premium?

* If you have installed it with Vista Home Premium, (which is what I have) have you experienced any problems afterwards?

Thank you for your assistance! :)

Hey sweetie !!

Long time !

OK, I have installed it last week. After a little search , I found where

this thing goes or what it's for. I'm still surprised that you use Fierfox!!!

That's what it's for ,Firefox.

If you go to "Tools" in Firefox (top left) and click on it , you will see "Add-Ons".

Click on that entry. In the box that will open, If you have :

Then , that's where it goes. Your's should say ".Net framework Assistant 1.0".

After you update the .Net Framework , it should read like the one in the screen shot.

Perfectly safe to install.

How are you doing ?? We don't see or hear from you to often .

Hello, my dear!

How are you, sweetheart? I missed you too.

I had to laugh when I read the email notif for your msg... :D I hardly use FF, basically I use it only to come here to PCW since I was having so much trouble with IE crashing so much a couple of months back. (I solved that problem though, when an IT friend of mine came remotely to my computer and deleted the IE7 Pro add on - voila! the crashing stopped inmediately!) HAHAHAAA! I have ads now, but no more crashing, go figure.....

Actually, before I posted the question here I had gone to MSFT website to check it out and found some info about the update - one part of the info was for Win Vista and the other one was for FF. I didn't save the page to my faves, so I went back today to recheck it and couldn't find it... rats! :(

Anyway... something curious happened to the KB963707... it disappeared yesterday!

And... today it is back!!! OMG, ROTFLMAO!

So I went back and did a bit of researching again on the MSFT website, support, forums, etc., and found a couple of interesting sites that I thought you'd like to read. They do not speak kindly of MSFT, (which didn't surprise me from my days here at PCW) nor of the update.

Read this one from someone at The Washington Post it'll give you food for thought. This one is interesting and this one from eggheadcafe too (you have to click on each reply to open the page and read it) I was ROTF with that last one!

So, am I going to install that thing? Heck NO! If it disappears again, it'll be ok, otherwise, I'll just let it sit there for a couple of days and then I'll just hide it and go on about my merry way.

What about you guys..... are you all going to install this "monster truck"?

Hey sweetie !!

To tell you the truth, they are just whining because MS did it behind there backs

the First time. This time , the update is out in the open and getting criticized . But,

did you verify that, FF does have this Extention like I asked in my post above ???

If you do have this extension then , I recommend you install the update. I did, and

no unwanted effects came of it. I know that your security is up to snuff so, I wouldn't

worry about it too much.

From what I can understand , this update is to help those users that require the .Net

Framework for programs to run. (not just properly but, to run at all). You already have

the .Net framework on your PC as part of the Vista OS. It ships with .Net 2.0 and If you

go to the Programs & Features in Control Panel , you most likely also have the

.Net 3.5 SP1. And your PC is working just fine. Like I said , Just Whiners .

I am running this little add-on in IE8 to block Flash Video from playing. it's called

Toggle Flash. Read about it and give me a shout if you're interested. Vista already

has the Prerequisite .Net 2.0 so, all you have to do is install and No More flash.

(not me , just the videos). http://flash.melamet...m/togflash.html .

Bonjour!

I'm going to read up some more on this thing, so I've decided to just hide it for now.

Thank you for all your great suggestions and advice, my friend. I really appreciate it. :x

Hi Tek,

Thank you for your help.

So, you have IE 8??? Have you ever had any problems with it?

I had it for about 2 months, but I was having soo many problems with it that I had to uninstall it and reinstall IE 7.

Hope you're having a great 4th of July! :D :x
