I'm using an HP Pavillion dv6000 that's around a year and a half old. Apparently the driver for my DVD rom drive is corrupted. System restores and reinstallation of drivers didn't fix the problem. The computer detects the device, but attempts to reinstall the driver result in corruption.
Any ideas what I can do to fix it? Aside from a full format, I'm trying to avoid.

Hey Empires !!
Welcome to PCWorld Community !
I presume you are using Windows Vista ?
Have you tried to boot in Safe Mode to see if you can't uninstall the
driver ? Also , if you can then, why not try to Install from there also.
How to get to Safe Mode . (click on blue words)
If this doesn't work , have you tried booting to :
"Last known good configuration ( blue words)
As a last resort, have you tried contacting HP ?
HP Troublshooting .
Hope this helps .

Boot in Safemode did nothing. Still corrupted drivers. I tried to do last known good config, but there is no such "Advanced Boot options" on my start up menu. So I have no clue how to set that up. The directions on the Windows website to do it seemed inaccurate.
HP website does not have the DVD rom drivers.
