I have Kaspersky Internet Suite 2009. Recent scans resulted in over 450 vulnerabilities namely with Java script and Adobe. Additionally, I have Secunia to assist with detection of problems. I am not as tech savvy as many of you. In my defense, Secunia even lists many of my vulnerabilities under it's "advanced setting". I recently downloaded "Super Anti-Spyware (free edition) from PCW and no major problems were noted, just some tracking cookies. What came as a shock to me is that my Kaspersky scan's now only show six vulnerabilities. I am unclear as to how this can occur. I am grateful but hope that PCW readers can help me with answer to this question. I hope that others can benefit from the download of this free anti-spyware and receive the results that I did. Java and Adobe need to assist the average person with quick fixes to it's persistent problems and provide adequate info regarding safe uninstall and replacement downloads.

:D Hi :
I strongly advocate the use of "SUPERAntiSpyware" and would recommend you make a
couple of minor "adjustments" by starting the program, clicking the "Preferences" button,
then removing the checkmarks in the "Start SUPERAntiSpyware when Windows starts"
AND "Show SUPERAntiSpyware icon in system tray" Settings, since these 2 should NOT
be used when using the FREE Version .
Your Question about Kaspersky should be asked on THEIR Support Forums at
forum.kaspersky.com/ , though I will mention that ONLY the latest "Version/Update"
of Java should be on a computer with ALL other "Version(s)/Update(s)" COMPLETELY
REMOVED, for security purposes . And Adobe products are contantly under attack by
malware writers, and IF you have their "Reader" program, it should be uninstalled and
"replaced" by a program such as the FREE "Foxit Reader" or "CutePDF" . I also
recommend uninstalling Adobe's "Shockwave" program, especially IF you have their
"Flash Player" .
When you speak of Secunia, I assume you are speaking of their excellent, FREE
"Software Inspector" and it would be wise to follow its "recommendation(s)" .

Thank you for your response. You seem to be well informed. Like many, I have made error's in the past deleting programs with unwanted results. I have held the opinion of Java script and Adobe as being integral basics to computer function and have feared deleting such would adversely affect my computer. May I ask in what order should I apply your suggestions? Delete the mentioned programs first and then download the replacements ? What should I expect with the replacement downloads ? For example, will I be able to access the "flash" equivalent of Adobe's program to view the requirement needed to view video's, etc. ? I assure you that there are many of us that can benifit from your knowledge. It can be very frustrating and time consuming attempting to research this on one's own. I have considered Kaspersky forums regarding the mystery as to why (via serendipity) that completion of a Super Anti-SpyWare scan eliminated the majority of my vulnerabilities. Previous experience with Kaspersky forums left me with the impression that there is an (almost) cult following of Kaspersky fans that are far more advanced with computer knowledge than I am. It's worth another try though. Thank you kindly for your assistance.

:D Hi :
There is a BIG difference between Javascript AND Java program(ming) from Sun
MicroSystems; my previous Comments ONLY pertained to the latter . In addition,
I find it very difficult to believe that running SUPERAntiSpyware have reduced your
"Vulnerabilities" from 450 to 6 !?
I will mention that the vast majority of the "Helpers" on this forum, including I, do NOT
favor using "Security Suite(s)", including Kaspersky . Would recommend you read WHAT
I wrote at forums.pcworld.com/docs/DOC-1141|d-1141 .
To give detailed recommendations about the programs on your computer, I would like to
"see" what programs are there; to do so, you would need to computer "copy", then "paste"
into this forum the "Uninstall Manager" log from the FREE HijackThis program . To do so,
download that program from [http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis] ( get the latest
Version ) . AFTER installation, start the program, then click the "Open the Misc Tools section"
button, then click the "Open Uninstall Manager" button and hopefully a "List" should appear,
which you then "copy and paste" into this specific "Thread" .

Due to a hectic schedule, it will likely take me several days to complete your suggestions. In the mean time, I ask that any one reading this with Kaspersky Internet Suite 2009 install the mentioned anti-spyware. If time allows, I will post a seperate request to PCW readers. The response should be interesting. I applied the anti-spyware to both my desk top and notebook with similiar results. My Kaspersky license covered 3 computers. I gave the additional licence to a friend and I requested that he download the anti-spyware. I will soon e-mail him to inquire as to his results. i realize that you are suspicious of my scan results. I was so amazed that I felt the need to share this with PCW readers. I will keep you informed.
