K. My girlfriend's mom and dad bought her a new laptop for christmas. She needs the internet and everything i have tried has failed. It worked until about the middle of may and now nothing. The wireless connects and it hardwires just fine. But when you click on anything that requires a connection (i.e. yahoo messenger, msn, the internet) it acts like there is no internet at all. She has unistalled the antivirus i gave her twice because she doesnt like it for some reason or another. Can anyone help me to the the internet to connect and actually work please and thank ya

:D Hi :

Since she apparently does not like to have security on her computer, she would be

"infected" in a short period of time IF she was connected to the net, so perhaps it is

best she is unable to connect !? To go further, we would need to have the SPECIFIC

Name of the Operating System and what "Browser(s)" are on the computer ; perhaps

there was a short, FREE "Trial" from an Internet Service Provider that has now "expired"

and was not "renewed" or a "Replacement" found to take its place !?

How have you tried to connect? DSL? Cable modem? Are you trying to connect through a router?

Does the computer have any software firewall or other security programs currently running on it?

First, I am going to assume that you have other computers that work with this connection...thus, you have ruled out that it is an issue with your overall connection. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Next, when you try to connect, what IP address does the computer get assigned? Does it start with 169.xxx.xxx.xxx by chance?

Is the computer running any software firewall?
