I use a lot of instrutional cd/dvds which I give out - frequently they return "scracthed or marred" - need something to repair the discs ... your experience and suggestions appreciated.

Hi, tigere.
There are disc-cleaning gadgets that claim to fix scratches as well as dirt. My experience (which was some years ago) is that they only occasionally work with the mildest of scratches.
So what else can you do?
If there aren't copyright issues involved, you can copy the discs and loan out the copy. If you have only one copy at a time, and only use the original to make new copies, you won't be violated the spirit of the law, although the copyright holder may feel differently.
Other than that, you could require a deposit on the discs.

Lincoln - Thank you for your reply - um ... our service is essentially altruistic and unfortunately not infrequently the "originals" are themselves somewhat flawed ... so any additional damage can be catastrophic ... I had looked at the "gadgets" on hype - space which is what prompted the post (if its too good to be true etc....)- I wonder what my buddies at PCW know about these things ... Thanks again ...
