I need help and phonecalls to microsoft and email only seems to have them want me to pay to fix their problem. I cant work and have a limited income so cant pay extra.

problem: downloaded IE8. under my wifes name the IE8 works great. when i log on as myself IE8 says it has a security settings problem and only opens in microsoft page. offers to fix it, but does not. same pop window comes up asking for yahoo to be default browser, offer to let me set up IE8 but does not.

also continues to give me the security settings problem saying a program has changed my IE8 security settings and offering to fix it, but will not

in control panel it does not allow IE8 tp be changed or removed. I tried to download it again, but when action completed same thing. my wifes is OK mine is corrupted.

any help from someone.

Also, my computer came with Microsoft word 2002/2004 disk and a KEY. had to reload Win XP and updates up to SP3.

It will download from CD, but will not accept the Key. it says to use key printed on box, but again it did not come with a box just sheet with the Key to use shown.

anyone have a resolution to this?

I have ran three software to try and find a malware/hijack, etc evil thing, but nothing comes up.

thanks for reading this and trying to resolve these 2 issues for me and others. jerry hankins

Hi, Johan. Welcome to the forum.

Rather than privately mail you an answer, I'm responding on the forum. That's really the point of a forum. You can create a dialog about your problem.

Could you please answer a few questions:

1) Is your logon an administrator or limited logon? And what about your wife's?

2) Have you tried another browser? Firefox is a big improvement over IE in virtually all areas.

3) Is the reload and key problem connected in any way to the IE8 problem? It's generally best to post separate questions separately.

Lincoln

Unless the Word issue is tied to the IE8 issue (which I do not believe it is), I would suggest you start a new thread just for the Word issue.

reference IE 8 I guess it must be a computer issue since it works on my others. WHY wont it let me delete to try a previous version that worked?

IF you know post, if not dont.

Word 2002/2004 I guess is a dead issue. I will use Open Office instead.

I screwed up because now I get all emails on every issue. IS THIS A METHOD OF PUNISHMENT FROM THE ONES WHO ARE UNCARING AND VICIOUS MEMBERS OF WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A GREGARIOUS BUNCH? YES I AM SHOUTING TO THOSE WHO USE THIS AS A PERSONAL VENDETA (FOR THOSE WHO DONT KNOW THE WORD, THAT MEANS YOU--LOOK IT UP!). I HAVE SEEN ALL THE NAMES AS LOG ONS IN REPLY, YOU ARE DESPICABLE.

IT HAS BEEN REAL--GOODBYE ALL--JERRY

Please keep in mind that we can only use what information you provide to try to help. Sometimes this will mean that people might need to ask some more questions in order to see if we can find a solution. If you want help with your problems through the use of forum like this, then you will need to exercise some patience and realize that people will likely have questions into order to try and get a full picture of what might be going on. If you are unwilling to be patient and answer those questions, then it will be likely that most will be unable to help you.

The point is that we do not have enough information from you to know if we have potential solution or not.

If that is what you want to do...but if you are willing to be patient and answer some questions, then we are certainly willing to try to see if we can figure out the problem.

Not quite completely sure what you mean, but I suspect it might be "email notifications" of the forum. When you post to a thread, the forum software by default will send you notifications when other people post to the thread. This is to help you know when others post to the thread without having to come to the website and check the thread yourself. In other words, it is meant to help...but it does annoy some people. And to that effect, you can turn off the email notifications. If you want to turn them off for just this thread (or any particular thread), then there should be a link at the top of the thread's page (on the right side) that says "Stop email notifications". You can also turn email notifications off by going to the Your Stuff menu at the top of the any forum page and selecting Email Notifications from the menu. And finally, you can set you Email Notifications Preferences by going to the Preferences item under the Your Stuff menu. This will allow you to set the default action...i.e. whether it will send you or not sent you email notifications for threads you create and/or threads you post to.

No one has vendetta against you and no one is being vicious...unless someone else is using your email address that you posted in the first message to spam you, which is why we do not recommend it and why I removed it from the post a while ago.
