The point is not refuted by the fact that there are people
who like IE and have few problems with it.
Here's the point ...
http://www.i4u.com/article25688.html
"In March 2009 the combined market share of IE6, 7,
and 8 was 65.8%, a commanding lead. But now, just
three months later, Internet Explorer's overall share
has dropped to 54.4%.
"That's a huge loss to bear, and it's due in part to the
recent spate of upgrades among IE competitors. In that
three month timeframe Firefox 3.5, Google Chrome,
and Apple's Safari 4 all launched. It's entirely possible
that within the next three months we will see Firefox
3.0 (or Firefox 3.5) actually beat Internet Explorer's top
version in total market share and become the dominant
web browser."

worked like a charm, no more internet explorer for me"

Did you forget your banking passwords?!! You didn't need Firefox, you needed to find new banks to replace the inept ones that could only figure out to tell you to use a new web browser!

I've installed IE 8 before, and it never locked me out of any sites - INCLUDING chase.com!

Let's get away from immature name calling! "MicroSuck", I think you called Microsoft. And there are lots of other insulting names that can be used, too. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find insults for Google, Firefox, Mozilla, Opera, Adobe, and other sellers (and writers) of software, big or small. And I'll even admit that some of those companies deserve to be called out for inferior or sloppy software. But calling them names? It's not necessary, and while the writer may find the insults witty, not many others will. Most folks will just decide not to read any further, realizing that the writer is reaxting like a 9 year old child.

There it is again. Microsoft always forcing us to upgrade this, that, or the other thing. Why can't they just stop bloating their wares???

I agree there wasn't much substance in the article, but who is being "mean-spirited?" ...silly ... incompetent ... sensationalism ... vitriol ... ridiculous ... joke ... CRAP ... amateurs ... losers ... BULL ... stupid ...

Are you not tired of such misleading titles ~ 75% of the time on PCWorld??? Do you think calling a spade a spade is wrong?

I never got continuous pop-ups asking that I download IE8; I did download IE8 on one machine, and left IE7 on another. I have not been locked out of any protected accounts on the machine that runs IE8 nor have I experienced any other problems. I use IE, Firefox, and, from time to time, Safari. I don't mind when someone throws punches at Microsoft; I just prefer that they do so when there is a valid reason.

I am getting tired of reading articles like these. There's nothing wrong with IE 8. All the web browsers out there do more or less the same thing. One may look nicer than the other, but really boys, they're almost the same.

With all the browsers out there, competition has done basically nothing, except give people some choice. That's ok. As for quality, please stop the Microsoft bashing. The other browsers are no better.

And let's be fair, Microsoft even took the trouble of separating IE from Windows 7. Isn't that what everyone wanted anyway?

IE 8 is great. Works fine for me. Works fine in Win XP. It's free. I don't need any other web browser. In the meantime, I've dumped Google in favour of Bing.

If you dont want to be "forced" to upgrade, don't allow updates to install automatically. Your computer will not do anything that you have not allowed it to do when it comes down to updates. Microsoft gave PLENTY of notice before IE8 was released as an automatic update. They also created tools to allow admins to block it, how is that forcing someone to install? Obviously, after some time you're not going to be able to keep surfing the web with IE 3 anymore but if you don't want to upgrade, you don't have to.

Honesty and objective criticism are great. Personal attack and mud-slinging, the world could do without.

PC World, contrary to popular belief, is not a bad magazine: it's just this kind of biased articles, worst than the puke commercial, that harms their reputation...

I've tried just about every browser out there. I keep going back to Avant. Never have a problem with it and I can change the skins and customize it as much as I want. I use Firefox when I'm bored (too many add-ons needed), IE7 for anything that MUST have IE, and even tried Chrome, Opera, Safari. I installed IE8 and took it off within a week. Too many sites that it wouldn't work with. All you browser beaters out there........give Avant a try. It works off IE shell but such an improvement.

Well then we agree... Please note I do not personally attack individuals, but organizations, such as PCWorld, and authors choosing to give silly names to their sillier articles. But do I name the author? No! Thus it isn't personal.... As far as mud-slinging, it is fully deserved IMHO towards the 'group'. JMHO.

Well if that's all IE8 does, good luck getting another browser while re-paging and looping re-page... ROTFLMAO!

You must be one of those special people cursed with IE8, not working for them?
