I have vista on a laptop and I like gaming. But I can't play any of the ones I like. It will play for 20 mins then it slows down so bad that the mouse won't even work.

I have done the normal scan, defrag. what program is out there that will snag any files and crap that don't need to be on here safely so my PC will work close to new. I want to be able to trust it because I don't know what all the extensions mean anymore.

Any help truly appreciated.

Check the downloads section for progams to help optimize your comp for gaming. Game Booster is one program that is available and is free. I would also check your temps make sure your comp is not overheating while gaming. When gaming on a laptop you should make sure your comp is on a hard flat surface not on your lap. Some laptops will need extra cooling while gaming you may have to get a laptop cooler. It would also be a good idea to run MSconfig to see what is all running on your comp(in the run box type msconfig) do not stop any services unless you know what it is for, google is your friend here. You may find that you have malware that your scans didn't pick up, or just a bunch of crap running that doesn't need to be. Just make sure you know what your going shut down and if your comp needs it to run before you shut it down.

Dlonghini: Welcome to PC World forums. You could help us out in diagnosing your problem if you could post your system parameters. A number of things could lead to the faults you see. The first would be a low amount of RAM memory, Most games require at least 2Gb to run efficiently or they will exhibit the kind of slow down you're seeing. Another problem could also be memory based but with the video memory. Most systems have onboard video memory, meaning it is substituted from the RAM for the video. Most are set for only 96MB and the lowest requirement for some games are at least 128MB. Hope this guides you in the right direction to solving your problem.

:D Hi :

To determine IF there may be "unnecessary" programs ( also undesirable Ones ) on your

computer, it would be wise to visit www.pcdecrapifier.com and consider using the

FREE program there .

We have no idea what you mean by "normal scan" !? Specifically, WHAT security programs

do you have on your computer ?

pcdecapifier is an excellent program. Its one of the first programs I run when someone asks me to "clean up the PC".

Ok I found alot of useful info with all the replys I got from you all. Thank you. Here is what I have. HP dv2500. My son bought it for me on a whim, AMD 64x2 1.90 GHZ. 2.00 GB ram 32 bitVirtual memory "paging file size" ? 2282mb don't know where to find the video memory.I did change the performance opt. to best performance. I have paid version of AVG. By normal scan I meant defrag, and ckdisk. I did run the pcdecrapifier, and got rid of a few things but most of the ones listed I don't know if I need them so I left them alone. I have a desktop that I should use for games, and just this one for surfing. The desk top has XP media, 64x2 duel 3800 processor, 2.01 ghz 2.50 gb ram.

The one game I started on laptop and now can't play it is Fate. I am so far in to the game like 120 hours, and want to keep it. Does anyone know if I can and where to, save Fate( just the save files) to disk from vista and move and play on Xp? I will try the game booster also.

Thank you all. I'll be back
